Book Description

"Dreamcatchers is a coming of age tale where 5 young friends, united by circumstance, confront their demons together in a very original and unique way....the pacing is great, and there are some genuine page-turner sections, as well as more sedate parts that quite elegantly set the backstory." Andrew Whittaker

DREAMCATCHERS - After Darkness Light is a young adult dark fantasy. Imagine, for a moment, Super 8 crossed with Apocalypto, and you have a hint of an idea of this novel....

.....It’s September 2012 and five school friends, all suffering similar horrific nightmares, decide to investigate why – only to become embroiled in an apocalyptic feud between two Mayan brothers. Their investigation leads them to the sudden disappearance of a former school teacher and to the source of their nightmares - a dreamcatcher, hidden in the depths of a parallel universe, saturated with evil. Its guardian is the immortal Anunaki, a murderous Mayan warrior.

The Mayan prophecies are nigh and Anunaki will fulfil them. He will unleash the dreamcatcher and shroud the world in such darkness that none will survive. And if by a miracle some do, they will pray every night that they had perished also.

The only person who can stop him is his younger brother, Iktaniki, a spirit guide - but not without the help of the five. There’s just one problem. They don’t trust him....or his motives.

"HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - MUST READ - ....a sitting on the edge of your seat novel and the reader will be quite enthralled at the story line."

5.0 out of 5 stars Made a non-reader read again. September 18, 2012
By gb220
Format:Kindle Edition
I am not an avid reader. I used to be when I was a child but now that I'm in my mid-twenties I find myself reading less and less; much to the lament of my parents.

The last book I can remember reading without being distracted was the Harry Potter saga. However, having purchased a Kindle in a bid to encourage myself to read I was trawling through the numerous books online when I was captivated by the eye-catching cover of this book. It was quite a macabre / haunting image (I'm quite into the mystical but with dark undertones) that I thought I'd download it and give it a read; I was blown away! I couldn't put it down. I found myself reading into the wee hours of the morning which just doesn't happen with me.

The plot echoed the cover and was dark and fiendish. I found the characters (a group of school children à la Harry Potter) relatable, despite no longer being at school and the writer managed to create a world that was believable. However, for me the star of the show is the plot; the twists and turns were so well crafted that as soon as you thought you could predict what was about to happen; it threw you! But in a way that rewarded you rather than throwing you off course.

I thought this was a fabulous book; it made me, a non-reader, read again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Internecine Tale - A Must-Read! December 13, 2012
By Grampy
Format:Kindle Edition
"Dreamcatchers: After Darkness Light" is an exceptionally well written and well conceived story which unfolds over the course of 1,000 years or more. It begins with five random students discovering that each of them has been haunted by increasingly horrific nightmares for quite some time. They agree to investigate the apparent meaning of their very different nightmares, only to find themselves together in a single jointly-shared dream world, where they meet their so-called Spirit Guide.

While investigating their own dreams, they discover that a similar series of events occurred 40 years earlier. At the earlier event a teacher was involved, who was diligent enough to keep accurate records. While looking through the various papers and artifacts once belonging to the teacher, one of the students suddenly becomes comatose. He reawakens about 15 minutes later, but while he was "out" he was an invisible witness to many years of Mayan and Toltec history, from the time their Spirit Guide was a young boy until his death. His experience helped the students put many loose ends together.

This story is well told, both the contemporary portion and the historical portion. Although obviously fiction, it's not hard to imagine this as a non-fictional account of some very supernatural events and circumstances. It is beyond my ability to adequately relate to you just how captivating and engaging this book is. All I can do is urge you to read it. Whether you are a fan of Fantasy, Science Fiction, Romance, War Stories, Horror, Paranormal, Mayan Culture, or just about any other genre, I believe you will be as fascinated as I was, from start to finish. This is really an excellent story.

5.0 out of 5 stars HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - MUST READ August 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
One of those captivating books on the market at the moment, you have to finish it and cant put it down and pick it up as you can with so many books nowadays.. It a suspense thriller, the author writes in a way that allows you to live every moment in so much that you can actually put yourself in place of one of the characters. The story is well written with twists and turns.

Its very apparent that the writer has undertaken much research to get his characters in the right part of the story, how they confront their demons and the way real life and myth are intertwined into the story.

You wont be disappointed in this book, the next novel he writes should be interesting if this one is anything to go by, other than that its a sitting on the edge of your seat novel and the reader will be quite enthralled at the story line.

More About the Author

I live in Canterbury in the UK with my artist wife, Anisa Mandahiling. The town is very old with cobblestone streets and buskers playing their melodies come rain or shine.

I lead a double life - during the day I am a Marketing Consultant for a technology firm and during the night, I write about two Mayan brothers; it's something I want to do more of.

I spent most of my teenage years staying up until three in the morning watching series like Tales from the Crypt, which probably explains the darker elements of my young adult stories.

DREAMCATCHERS - After Darkness Light is my first novel.
