After purchasing a Teletalker for Mom two years ago because she had difficulty hearing, I decided I needed some help as well. The Phonemax is perfect for my needs now. It is lower in cost than the Teletalker, but has the same clarity of sound. It words well with my hearing aids and is my telephone of choice in my house

This is a great phone for those who have some difficulty hearing. The ring has 3 levels of loudness that can be set. It also has 3 levels of pitch that can be set for the ringer. This is helpful if your hearing loss is more pronounced with high or low sounds. There is also a dial that lets you adjust the voice volume. It is easy to set up. Also has the capability to be used as a wall phone although I didn't try that.

I've used this phone for about a month now and I think it's going to be a great purchase. I had an old GE amplified phone that was inadequate for my hearing. I guess it amplified the volume by maybe x2. Also, it had some features that I rarely used. As my hearing got worse I decided to get a new phone. I selected the PhoneMax because it had a standard ringer as an option - I learned by reading other reviews that the Clarity phones (the other option I was considering) only had an amplified ringer (i.e. loud). The phone seemed to have the big feature I needed - more volume. It does have a lot more volume. One possible caution: I think the advertisements say it's got 40 dB amplification, open the users manual and it says 25 dB (as I recall). I don't think the phone delivers 42 dB amplification, but it probably can deliver at least 10 dB and possibly 25 dB - it probably has more than enough for you unless you really, really, really have a hearing problem - I wear hearing aids when I have to, but most of the time I can get by without them, and the phone can supply very much more volume (x10) than I need if I turn the volume all the way up. One other feature is that it amplifies the high frequencies more than the low, so voices sound different on the phone - but you'll likely still be able to recognize who you're talking to. The ringer has 3 levels, off, lo, hi, and also 3 tones (I, II, & III). The volume control is a simple analog rotary dial on the front of the phone - easy to access and easy to change. The phone, and all comparable amplified phones, were kind of costly, in my opinion; on the other hand I think I'll get good use from it for at least 10 years - maybe longer. I recommend it. Not a lot of bells and whistles, just what you need.
