4.0 out of 5 stars I passed the test!
Using this Q & A book and one of the reference books DANTES recommends, I scored a 69 on this test and acquired 3 more upper level credits. Passing score was 47. This score of 69 scaled out to an "A" with Regents College.

Out of about 300 questions, I only found about 5 errors, not too bad.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I took the Dantes test today.
There were 106 questions and this book maybe came close to 5.
What a surprise I experienced.
It would have been nice if most of the book material had been close to what was in the test.
It was if someone put the book together just guessing what the questions might be...

Don't let the haggard appearance of this study aid fool you. While it might not have been compiled and constructed by the finest craftspeople around, it's what's inside that counts the most. This is now the second time that I have used one of these packets to prepare for and pass the DSST exam. With regard to this specific packet, I believed that it was far more beneficial in terms of content than the last one that I purchased. The bottom line is that I am now batting a hundred using nothing other than these guides to prepare for the test. They have my vote of confidence.

The book didn't cover everything on the test but it did enough to prepare me for the type and style of questions that were asked. The other recommended text, Drugs and Society, covered the rest of the material.

I purchased this book after reading a Dantes guide which was very much like a high school text book. If I had not used this study guide I would have been shocked when I saw the test. Most of the test items came from this book. Don't know my score yet, but do know that this book was very helpful in taking the test.

After getting a shock from studying the Civil War and Reconstruction guide, I bought both the study guide and the recommended reading (Drugs and Society) for this test, and passed with an A. Not an easy test, but made much better by reading the accompanying material.

Passed the test using only this text as study material. Scored a 59 and the passing score was 49. I did find a couple wrong answer in the book, but it still did a good job of preparing me for the test. Im 3 for 3 thus far using these books.

3.0 out of 5 stars Moderately Helpful, December 22, 2008
This review is from: DSST Drug and Alcohol Abuse (DANTES series) (Plastic Comb)
This book did a fair job of preparing me for the test. I expected it to be more textbook style, however most of the book is just questions and answers from different versions of the test.

It did help me prepare for the style that the test is written in, and I DID pass the test despite a limited knowledge on the subject prior to purchasing this product.

1.0 out of 5 stars I passed!, July 10, 2008
This review is from: DSST Drug and Alcohol Abuse (DANTES series) (Plastic Comb)
I took this test yesterday and I passed with a 57. I was very dissapointed with this study guide because I felt this guide was not helpful at all. Out of all the practice questions that was in this book, only a handful(5) were on the test. I'm glad that I didn't put that much effort in studying for this test because that would have been a waste of time. Two of my friends also took this test recently and used this guide and they felt that this book was not helpful at all. My personal opinion is that I don't think I would've passed if not for my medical background. I don't recommend this book at all.
