I have grips on my PSP (Nyko with battery) and DS Lite Stereo Grips (Dream Gear). I was overall satisfied with those previous grips. I pre-ordered these grips and have been disappointed.

They do feel a little better than holding the DSi XL by itself, but not much. They do hold the DS securely enough. They don't balance the DSi XL well in your hands. When the DS is open, if feels like the weight is pulling down slightly from the top. I would have liked for the handles to extend a bit lower as well for comfort.

The two slots for holding DS games are not good. They are too loose and I have had DS cartridges slide out of them. I no longer use those slots because I fear I won't notice that a game has come loose and it will be lost.

My final complaint is my biggest one. I almost always use headphones when I play my DS. For some strange reason, these grips were designed in a way that covers up the headphone jack on the DSi XL. It makes using headphones impossible. I had to use some tools to cut a good chunk of plastic away and file it down to make it usable. You can get the stylus, volume controls, and SD slot without a problem, which is nice, but covering up the headphone jack is a huge no-no in my opinion.

I would not recommend these grips for the reasons above. Hopefully they will come out with an improved version in the future.

Before buying the product I did read the reviews to get an idea of what the product was like. The overall design concept is great. You have two handles that allow the user a comfortable grip. The leg on the back come down making a tripod so you get a great viewing angle, which I love to use when I am using a cooking game. There are two card slots on the back for two spare cartridges, and they are very loose. If you turn the grip upside-down and give it a quick jolt they do fall out. All the ports and functions are still accessible with the exception of the headphone jack, it is completely covered. To solve both issues I did some minor modifications. The card slots I heated with a hair dryer and pushed the center in slightly and added a small piece of felt tape. Now I can shake the grip violently and the cartridges don't budge. As for the headphone jack, I had to cut and melt the grip to get it just right. I would give this product 5 stars if not for the extra work on my part.

My wife made me a temporary loan of hers. After twenty minutes of use, I ordered another one for her. My dear wife failed to define "temporary". Oops! She's reading over my shoulder. I just can't wait for mine to get here.

We are retired. Neither of us has noticed the extra weight or a balance problem. If you only use your XL a few minutes at a time, you probably don't need one of these. If, though, you plan to only play for a few minutes and check the clock and see that an hour has passed, then one of these might be quite helpful.

The rounded grip part is large enough to keep our hands from cramping. If you are using a stylus for play the other hand is much more comfortable holding the entire unit. If you are using the control pad, the palms of your hands and fingers are more relaxed while your thumbs are playing.

We haven't found a use for the stand (at least yet). The only negative is that the grip does cover the headphone port. Others have pointed out that some judicious carving can remedy that. We don't use headphones anyway.

Well made, decently priced, comfortable to use - give it a try. We soon will have two in use.

I usually don't buy these types of things (grips of any sort for Nintendo hand helds), but this accessory has made holding the DSi XL for long periods of time ( 3 hours a pop) much easier. The XL can get pretty heavy after a while and the console-controller like grips feel great. Plus, the "kick stand" in the back works good too. The accessory itself is pretty light so it doesn't really add to weight.

It attaches very snuggly with no wiggle, and (bonus!) it does not block the stylus port! Or the SD card slot or the volume controls for that matter.

I don't use headphones on my DS, so the previously written reviews mentioning the blockage of the headphone port didn't bother me in the slightest or stop me from buying this. Imagine my surprise when I popped my XL into the handles and found the headphone jack completely free and accessible. It seems the problem has been corrected, so consider that when reading any review that subtracted points for that problem. Can't comment on the DS cart storage slots, don't intend to use them. Handles fit snug and feel great.

I ordered one of these a few months ago and it has made a huge difference in how I play games on my DSi XL. The console itself is thin, making it hard to hold, especially when you need to pull do anything more than basic left/right/up/down button presses. My hands used to get cramps pretty quickly from having to support the weight of the system with the outer muscles of each hand. Since I got this grip, it has made a huge difference and it makes the system feel like you're using a full blown controller. Now I can't stand to use my system without the grip. Also, several of the reviews, which are very old, have stated the grip covers the headphone jack. The grip I received must be a newer revision, as the headphone jack is completely exposed and I have no problems plugging in my headphones with a larger connector. The back of the grip has two slots to hold two DS games, but they don't work very well at all and I do not recommend using them. If you put a game in the correct way, it will easily pop up. If you put the game in backwards, you basically have to take the grip apart (uses phillips screws) to get the game back out. Another feature that I found I use a lot more than I ever though I would is the stand that folds out. If sitting at a desk or table, you can rest the grip on the table just like in the picture and still fairly easily wrap your hands around the system. This probably works better with RPG's, but it's just a nice feature in general.

This is the first time I've ever felt the need to write a product review. It really is that good. If you own a DSi XL, you need to buy this. It makes the system much, much more ergonomic and less painful to hold for extended periods of time. No more hand cramps for me!
