Dee Dawning is fairly new to the world of writing, having only started writing as a hobby in 2004. Then again that wasn't the first time Dee started a new career on a whim. In 1972 he decided to design and build a house. He did and, being artistic, it turned out pretty good. So naturally he started drawing homes in his spare time and two years later when he became a licensed contractor, he started building outstanding custom homes in the Las Vegas and later the Phoenix area.
The home building career came to an abrupt if not ignoble end in 2009 when the Wall Street house of cards imploded, leaving Dee and his wife out of work without income and for Dee starting a brand new full time career at retirement age. Admittedly, Dee says it hasn't been easy getting into a new industry in a state of flux, but he's persistent.
Dee doesn't clip coupons or bother to enter contests or join clubs, but he has managed to write and publish over fifty titles of various lengths and genres from sweet romance to erotica, from drama to action suspense, even a little about religion and politics, often with tongue-in-cheek humor. Some say Dee's writing is a little quirky and that's okay with him. So if you're looking for something a little different check out his scribblings. I doubt you'd be disappointed.
MORE Dee loves the Southwest and presently lives with his beautiful wife of thirty-three years and their oversized white Lab in Carefree AZ. (Children are grown but not quit grown-up)
EVEN MORE In 2009 Dee started the publishing company, New Dawning Bookfair. It's rare that I feel as if finishing a book is like pulling teeth, but that's exactly how I felt with this book. Let's begin with the writing: there's no developed style of writing...I just couldn't get into this story. It didn't pull me in and hold my attention. Next, the characters were so flat---there was no depth to the characters. I certainly didn't feel like I was getting to see the personalities of Jamilla or Tony. It was clear that Letta was a little crazy, but beyond that, there was no depth to her character, either! She was just weird making strange suggestions for Jamilla. Finally, the story was just silly---too many unbelievable twists in the story: the wives, the twins, etc. There's only so much silliness I can allow as a reader before the novel becomes unacceptable. This novel met that threshold! To top that off, the book was so rushed at the end, particularly the unexpected marriages!
Sadly, the best part of the book was the first few pages, involving the sex scenes with Max and Jeanette. The rest of the sex scenes were a bit blah...nothing very interesting. This book was a big disappointment for me and will probably cause me to avoid any of this writer's future works.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I refused to put it down! An intelligent, slightly overweight woman finds out she's not legally married, by the previous wife no less! And now the real story begins! Dee Dawning writes a hilariously, fast-paced story that touches the heart! Throw in a ghost for good measure and man, oh man, really hot sex and she's got a recipe for love! Mix in a ruthlessly intelligent and breathtaking lawyer and it really takes off! Duped will touch emotions and memories alike. Ms. Dawning writes a believably eloquent tale of loves lost and found, familial and romantic as well as friendships and justice! Enticing the reader to cheer and jeer as the tale unfolds, this author is one to watch!
I will admit I got this book for the erotic content. About halfway through I found I didn't really want it to turn erotic at all. I was enjoying the story so much. I won't give away details, but I enjoyed suspending my belief to take in the story.
I have read many of this author's stories, and have kept most of them, which is saying a lot, since I tend to delete books to make room for others unless they catch my attention. This is a keeper for me, as are many of her other books.
Loved the story, it kept me guessing, but the outlandish sex talk and poor editing was distracting. I normally don't ding the author for minor editing issues, but in this case the way the story was written.....editing was crucial. There was a lot of the being told from different points of views....so the wrong pronouns, et al was just distracting. Then there was the corny sex lines, i.e. when Jamilla was having an orgasm she said, "...it's a Cali-fornia earthquake." What??
Also, I was just Looking for an interracial romance, but this one had paranormal intervention at every possible moment, an adoption and a long lost twin, the main character being the product of a secretive, interracial union, twin dying from a drive by, marrying a con man who was a bigamist and married to a white woman and apparently using his member as a "weapon" and all I was thinking was....you have to do and go through all that to get involved with a white guy??!! Really?
It was an ok read. My problem and concern was Jamilla constantly talking about being overweight. Ugh get over it alreeady. What's 20 lbs. I would have loved to read more about them -- all the characters. Guess the book was to short. Overall it was an ok read. Glad it was free though.
