Was not sure what to expect from an inexpensive tester but found it easy to use and effective. Especially after reading all the instructions (including the notes at the end). True, instructions could be better but certainly good enough to be able to run routine tests. For this price you cannot expect a tester that will give a complete and totally reliable test. For example, this tester will not identify synthetic moissanite (man made crystal with many similarities to diamond) but it will spot CZ and since CZ is much cheaper than moissanite stones this tester will be useful for many of us. But if you are concerned to discern difference between genuine diamond and moissanite then there are other testers that will do that job for you. We had some older jewelry and wanted to test to be sure which held diamonds and which did not. For this purpose it was extremely helpful. For those who like to frequent flea markets and garage sales looking for quality antique jewelry this could be an invaluable tool. Since moissanite started to be used in jewelry in 1998 it is only more recent jewelry that would need to be tested to distinguish moissanite from diamond.

I had my doubts about a diamond tester that was this cheap. And I haven't used it a lot. Maybe it won't hold up with heavy use (hey, I don't get a lot of diamonds in!) But we tested it on known CZs, rhinestones and diamonds and it was right every time. So I'd say it was a good buy for the money, especially if you just need to occasionally make sure something is or isn't a diamond.

I took this to work with me one day and I practically had a line of folks testing out their diamonds to make sure they had authentic diamonds instead of the knockoffs. This tester is accurate from what I experienced.

Easy to use and accurate! Tested on known items that were diamonds and non-diamonds and it worked perfectly. Have been testing other items that I sell and it helped me discover a diamond locket I had which I thought was only paste. GREAT GREAT GREAT!!

Picked up a bracelet from the Thrift store for $10. Worker said it was CZ's. Figured for $10 I could afford to take a chance. Fit perfect and the stones sparkled. Had my suspicions that the stones were real diamonds so I bought the tester and when it arrived, I immediately tested a pair of earrings that I knew were diamonds. Tested as real diamonds. Next, tested the bracelet and it also registered as real diamonds. Turns out the bracelet has 2.0 TCW of diamonds. Worth? A lot more than $10.

Love the tester and it's going with me whenever I visit the local thrift stores.

Very simple to use and test. The instruction could be a bit more detailed as far as the way to adjust the power seeing to be able to understand the device reaction to different type stones mainly because if the user is not a jeweler may not have available different stones to compare. However, with more testing of different stones one may even get to know how to use it to rough discriminate between diamonds, topaz, glass, sapphires, zirconia etc.

I was very skeptical that something under $20 can detect a real diamond. Anyhow I found something that looks like a diamond on the ground. I wanted to test it for fun. I had several real diamonds from my wedding ring and many Diamoniques and CZ rings at home to test the tester.

It took a little calibrating but this tester works. I just followed the directions, waited 30 seconds for it to warm up and wallah! It was able to detect all my real diamonds (from 1 ct to .1 ct) as real diamonds. I detected all the Diamoniques & CZ as fakes. It detected the pearl as not a gemstone. I was VERY impressed by this little tester.

Unfortunately it also said that my little find in the parking lot wasn't even close to a CZ. Most likely some plastic play gemstone from a kids toy. Oh well ...
