Editorial Reviews

Review

"What I found was a well laid out book with comparisons not so much of manufactures but of formats. The virtues of DVCAM are well laid out in language that is easy to understand for the layman but not so simplistic that a professional can't get something out of it. An excellent read for both the user who is already shooting DVCAM and the professional cameraman who is who is just entering the digital realm. With comprehensive sections on the difference between compression, sampling, quantizing, and digitizing the reader gains a better understanding of whats going on when an image hits the CCD and how it ends up on tape." - volksmovie.com

"In his previous book, Shooting Digital Video, Jon Fauer, ASC provided an exemplary overview of digital video, covering DVCam, MiniDV and DVCPro. His new book, DVCAM, is a comprehensive summary of the Sony DVCam format and its equipment, including cameras, tape, VTRs, editors and accessories." - Ray Zone, American Cinematographer

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, full of practical iunformation, March 8, 2002
This review is from: DVCAM: A Practical Guide to the Professional System (Paperback)
Jon Fauer, who's film-camera books have set a standard in the industry, has written his second video-related book. This one too is full of very practical information, and answers those nagging questions about differences between DV and the DVCAM format. No matter what level of production experience a person has, there's information in this book that will prove helpful in the field.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great addition to using digital-video, March 7, 2002
This review is from: DVCAM: A Practical Guide to the Professional System (Paperback)
What I like about this book is how it complements the more general "Shooting DV" book by the same author, focussing on DVCAM specifically - the similarities, differences as well as compatabilities beween mini-DV and DVCAM. There are clear technical explanations that make sense even if you're not a very technically-oriented digital-video user. I also really like the many clear illustrations and photos of the various cameras functions, as well as the tape-formats. Very useful info about important details such as the weight of various tapes, all the way to various digital-editing options. Jon also asks really valid questions through his explanations "does such-and-such a feature justify the price difference". It's nice to have a book that packs in so much practical, technical information in an easy-to-read, and use, book.
