This video is a great companion for your 12-string guitar. Before I bought my Ricky 370-12, I bought this DVD. Roger's technical demonstrations such as changing strings, and adjusting the truss rods are enlightening, making a seemingly daunting task less so. Even if you don't have a Ricky, the song lessons are useful on any 12-string guitar.
The lessons are well laid out, and the solos are played first at their regular tempo, and then slowed down for ease of learning. Roger's hybrid picking style is also explained here, but it isn't necessary to learn it to play these songs (I'm a flatpicker). The booklet accompanying this disc contains tablature for these as well, making this a fairly complete learning package.
The only thing I would ask for would be some audio backing (play-along) tracks to accompany these lessons, so you could play what you've learned with a "band". However, the lack of these in no way detracts from my enjoyment of it, and I recommend this DVD very highly.

Aside from teaching "Turn,Turn, Turn", "Mr. Tambourine Man", "Eight Miles High", "On Easter Morn He Rose", and "Wasn't Born to Follow", there are some special tips about the Rickenbacker 12-string. Roger shows how to change strings on his guitar, as well as how to change the battery and adjust the truss rod.
Most of the emphasis is on "Turn, Turn, Turn", which features some not-so-easy Travis-style picking.
If you only have a 6-string, this is probably not the video for you.
If you are considering buying a Rickenbacker, this video should help you make a decision one way or the other.

Roger not only provides good instruction on how to play some of his best songs, step by step, but also provides a lot of insight into the Rickenbacker 12 String. He shows how to replace strings, tune, adjust truss rod, etc. He also talks in great detail about the Rick, it's history & how he plays it. Exceptional DVD. Highly Recommended to anyone wanting to learn how to play electric 12 string & Rickenbackers in particular.

Now Roger did a good job on this. Somewhat endorsing Rickenbacker's 370-RM, named after him, he does an excellent job with close up finger patterns, scales, how to tune the 12-string as opposed to the 6-string, and techniques that really make the 12-string sound like it can ... a fully orchastrated guitar. It also introduced me to the JangleBox which is about as close as you can come to sounding like Roger McGuirre's 370-RM with it's sustain/compression.

This was a birthday gift for a friend of mine. He was very surprised and just loved it. He plays a 12-string guitar almost as well as Roger and there is a technique Roger uses that my friend wanted to learn. It is a great DVD.

Roger Mcguinn Does An Excellent Job Showing His Techniques & Popular Songs. Very Informative. Also Care Of The Rick 12 String. I Learned Alot From This DVD. Takes The Guesswork Out Of It. If You Like The Birds And Have A Rickenbacker 12 String, I Would Highly Recomend It. Ross

Besides the 'lessons' on those great songs, this DVD gives you all of the necessary insights into the Ric 360-12 or 370-12, including truss rod adjustment and string changing.

Superb on his 12-string, as always... He really is a fabulous guitarist and this shows it.

I'm a big fan of Roger McGuinn, and I recently purchased a Rickenbacker 360-12.
I found the DVD entertaining and informative. I wish there were more actual instruction,
but the information on the DVD for set up of the Rickenbacker, and techniques to play
chords on the Rick's narrow neck, and info on tone to get that jangle sound were very helpful.

The unique and great Roger McGuinn gives the viewer a masterclass in this video on how to set up, play and take care of a Rickenbacker 12-string guitar. The technical information and demonstrations he gives (picking style, what tuning to use on the guitar, changing the strings, which strings to use, adjusting the neck, recording with the Rickenbacker 12-string) are priceless! This information doesn't seem to be available anywhere else. PLUS, McGuinn has a really friendly, easy-going teaching style on this video. You really feel that he would be a wonderful teacher in person. In my opinion, this is the closest any of us will get to spending some time with the legend himself. Highly recommended for anyone who owns a Rickenbacker 12-string or who loves The Byrds' or Roger McGuinn's music.
