NTI Media Maker 8,
This review is from: CD & DVD Maker Platinum 7 Professional [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
CD & DVD Maker 7 has been updated to a new suite of tools called NTI Media Maker 8. Media Maker 8 has virtually any tool necessary in working with CDs or DVDs. In addition to burning and ripping audio, video, photos, and data, it provides a built-in backup utility called NTI Backup Now. The package also includes tools for editing audio files, creating slideshows and jewel case labels. You can burn data, audio, mixed-mode (a combination of data and audio tracks), standard video formats in additional to Blu-ray. The backup utility allows you to back up to any device writeable device on your system (hard disk, flash drive, CD or DVD). The program has a rather interesting wheel-style interface, which clearly labels any function that you wish to perform. When you click on one of the buttons, another wheel pops up to display a number of specific tools available in that category (i.e., Audio allows you to rip a CD, create an audio CD or an MP3 CD, create a music DVD, record from your microphone or line-in jack, or edit an audio file.) I found all of the tools to be easy-to-use and logically laid out. During my testing, the software performed as expected and the burned CDs and DVDs performed flawlessly in other devices. This is an excellent tool for all of your burning needs.

I was using Nero brfore getting this program. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles as Nero but it is a lot easier to use. It is also cheaper than Nero. If you need a good simple program for burning CDs and DVDs this is the one.

Just purchased this software to turn my homemade movies into DVDs. The software doesn't recognize my videos downloaded onto the computer because they are in AVI format. I used the free SDcopy software to change them into MPEG format, but the NTI DVD Maker tells me they are now in MPEG-1 format, and they need to be in MPEG-2. In order to convert them into MPEG-2 files I'll need to buy an additional MPEG-2 plug-in from NTI on their website for $15. Now, I'm new to this whole digital video thing and in my naivete I expected the NTI CD/DVD Maker to handle all aspects of DVD burning. Kind of one-click-does-it-all deal. Apparently it does not, and it requires the additional purchase of a video file converter. This is disappointing, and I just started with this software. I'm wondering if there's anything better out there in the market.

CD&DVD Maker 7 Platinum is fine, but be wary of Media Maker 8,

NTI CD&DVD Maker 7 Platinum has been upgraded to Media Maker 8. I had no problems with Maker 7, and Maker 7 has been my main CD/DVD burning program. But Media Maker 8 appears to be incompatible with Microsoft's Media Center. Even when uninstalled it leaves some problems that can take considerable work to repair. Timely service was not available from NTI, and the company falsely claimed it was a problem specific to my computer, not one with their program. The company takes a "10% transaction fee" in any refund and if you pay for a CD copy rather than a download, you will lose shipping charges, too. So, I suggest that if you want to try Media Maker 8 (or Maker 8 Premium) do not pay in advance. Go to the NTI website itself and download a trial version first to verify that it will work in your computer before you actually buy it.

Not What I Expected,

I purchased this product to use primarily to back up and copy my photo files to DVD. As a serious photographer I shoot in RAW and after editing I save in TIFF. However, the designers of this product in their infinite wisdom decided to support just the JPEG format. Therefore I cannot use it to copy photo files, which renders this producr totally useless to me. If anyone reading this knows of a product that will do what I need please let me know at VMPALEST@gmail.com Victor m Palacios

I'd felt severly burned with the garbage by Roxio, was desperate for an app that was reliable and stable since I do a fair amount of audio CD recording.
NTI installed easily enough, unfortunately over a very short period of time it became slower & slower. Up to 30 minutes per disc to COPY a CD and that's IF it doesn't hang-up or flatout crash!! Even Roxio could get the generic copy function correct. And FWIW I'm not copying commerical CDs either, only the compilation stuff I make for myself. Have to vent here, ask what's going on that there isn't ONE company be it Roxio, Nero (given Nero's reviews, Nero sounds at least as bad as Roxio) or even freeware such as CDBurnerXP that actually performs as billed & in a timely, stable manner?? Rediculous, both frustrating *and* disappointing. Beginning to wonder --now-- if this kind of lousy performance isn't a norm the result of how dumbing-down of America is manifesting? Good grief. I'll uninstall and reinstall; but, I dunno. Seems like deja vu of the awful Roxio experience to me, so far. Be advised.

having had my laptop stolen which had a pre-installed version 7 of nti's cd/dvd disk maker, I was excited to find version 8 pre-installed onto the replacement laptop. Horror of horrors I found it awful - firstly the update would never install. Secondly there was no longer the facility to make an audio cd from both MP3 and WAVE files, mixing the two onto the same disk, so I had to buy version 7 again to get back to the easy user friendly way of burning cd's. I contacted NTI via their website to ask if version 7 was compatible with vista (don't know why I bothered - they said no, I needed version 8, even thought the stolen laptop was using vista) but I asked them because all of the information regarding version 7 says that you need windows xp, not mentioning vista, for it to work. I decided to go ahead anyway as I hadn't had any problems using version 7 with vista on the old laptop - and thank goodnes I ignored their helpful(NOT) information cos version 7 works beautifully with vista. I have tried roxio and nero buth neither are as good as Platignum version 7. What makes it the best cd burner I have tried is the fact that you can used any file type to make a cd and that it will print, in cd cover format via their jewel case maker section of the program, all of the tracks

This software won't copy the same original DVD which I have copied using the My DVD program which came FREE on my computer. It simply says "not recordable" although the same DVD and the same empty disc WILL record using Sonic's My DVD. There is no copyright protection on the DVD being recorded. This product was definitely not worth the money.

Had a little problem on the beginning trying to get it to install. Had to reboot my computer and then I had no problem. I really like the software. I would highly reccommend it. They were real prompt on shipping it to me.
