Mac compatible, no drivers needed unless you have a PC. This external DVD burner is one of the fastest (and most quiet) I have ever used. It's big and bulky and while I would prefer one of the smaller units that are more aesthetically satisfying, this one is worth its ugly looks for its speed. It sits on my desk until I need to use it, at which time I just plug the USB cable into my MacBook Pro, insert a disc, and it's instantly accessible on my computer. No hassles. No issues. Highly recommended.

I had high hopes when I bought this. I immediately used it to create a restore disc for my netbook.

It created the disc ok. The problems started when I used the lightscribe to label the disc. The quality was poor overall and there were numerous (20+) rings, like the rings of a tree, on the disc that weren't supposed to be there.

After checking the Lightscribe website and trying everything else, I was directed to update the firmware on the drive. The knowledge base listed that or a defective drive as the problem.

I went to Memorex's website and chose support. After making various selections so it brought me to the correct model, it brought me to a screen that advertised the drive's features. At first, I thought I must have chosen the store instead of the support option accidentally, so I wnt back and did it again.

I had not made a mistake. That was the extent of their "support," a splash page showing the features. There was nothing helpful. No way to get help online. No knowledge base or even forums. No way to update the firmware. I found a phone number that was useless. It seems impossible to contact their customer service department. Even the "get support" link in the software that comes with the drive brought you to the same ad page.

The software included with this drive for making labels is very basic. You can't use any images but the included templates.

Needless to say, it's going back and I'll never buy another Memorex product.

I bought this recorder as a replacement for an older Memorex recorder and it has been working flawlessly since day one. I have tried DVD recorders from Sony and they are just junk! Memorex makes the best one's at a reasonable price. This one is fast and haven't had any problems over the past few months.
