This review is from: DVD: Wishbone "Hot Diggety Dawg" (DVD)
I thought Wishbone was a clever idea that was never quite marketed right. The show itself was a terrific gem that aired on PBS, but it was for an odd age group. PBS Kids is brilliant at shows for younger children, but this seemed to slip through the cracks. A shame, because I felt it was a terrific way of getting kids who were on the cusp of deciding if reading was cool, to think it was.
Wishbone was a dog whose family and friends were always getting into situations that reminded him of classic stories. The show would then flash to Wishbone (in costume) as one of the principal characters in the story, and they would act out the novel. The TV show would cut back and forth between the real world and the literary one. I bought all of the videos and I hope they make it to DVD soon, because my niece loves dogs and this would be a great way to introduce her to some beloved books. |
