5.0 out of 5 stars Very Interesting book.
The only book that I recommand to understand the basic design of optical transmission system. Several books are covering only few aspects of DWDM technology, this one generalize with the just need of what's going on over the fiber and where are the key points of the network. I particularly appretiate the fact that the autors include Q factor and OSNR perspective to design...

1.0 out of 5 stars So many technical errors! Burn this book!
I went through chapter 4 "WDM Network Design -1" of this book. I found so many annoying technical errors and inaccuracies, almost on all pages, of this chapter. It appears that authors copied various material and formula from various sources without fully understanding the material. In my view this kind of technical publication does more harm than service...

I particularly appretiate the fact that the autors include Q factor and OSNR perspective to design a network. To conclude, this book is well proportional between the physical layer and the rooting issue to get the network smart and efficient. Well done and almost sexy!

The book still may be useful if you are looking for only general ideas on the subject, but if you need accurate technical information, forget it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Reference, February 17, 2006

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: DWDM Network Designs and Engineering Solutions (Hardcover)
This is a great reference for both the DWDM network designer as well as anyone who needs a quick review of the math behind the decisions. Does a very nice job discussing Chromatic Dispersion as well as Polarization Mode Dispersion. This, alone, makes the book worth the price!

I gave it only 4 stars because the included demo software is a holdover from bygone Windows NT days with a really gruesome license server that can't handle a simple task like going online to download a license file. Don't count on getting it to work unless you have an antique NT workstation and are willing to fax your information to VPI... (ick).

Hey, don't blame me... These days it's a Windows XP Pro world!

This is good book, giving comprehensive details on the DWDM networks. I think its a helpful reference for beginners as well as those in this field for quite some time. Especially the coverage on WDM network design is really good. I hope we get to hear more from the authors!! But for now...this is truely a must-have for this topic!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellence par brilliance!!!!, May 12, 2003

This book is extremely well organized, easy to read and makes understanding optical networking so easy. The good aspect is the design considerations. On the negative side the book is not very liong and I hope there is a second edition. I am offering courses with this book as a tutorial guide and i findit better than contemporary books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book on Optical Networking, September 28, 2003
By
This review is from: DWDM Network Designs and Engineering Solutions (Hardcover)
The book is an excellent source of information for network design and product development. It covers all aspects of optical network design. No other book covers this aspect of network design as this one does. Network classificaiton and explanation is very contemporary and cutting edge technologies are shown in the manuscript. The futures section covers technologies that seem most appropriate for real time networks. The simulation software is useful for physical layer design as well as network layer routing and wavelength assignment strategies....
Looking to a second edition hopefully soon..

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book, May 19, 2003

This review is from: DWDM Network Designs and Engineering Solutions (Hardcover)
This is really a good book covering the various aspects of Optical networking. The networking part is dealt smoothly, but a slight editting is required in the sections where the authors discuss about the various equations and the physical characteristics of fibers.

Overall, this is a good book and hope the authors will bring a quick second edition with more topics on the state-of-the art technologies.
