DX-A2S - A high quality camcorder interface, May 29, 2005
This review is from: DXA-2S Dual XLR Adapter for Miniature Camcorders (Electronics)
The DX-A2S is an easy to use, high-quality and reasonably priced audio interface for camcorders.
This device allows you to either use XLR balanced line or microphone level inputs and converts to your camcorders 1/8" microphone input.
I used the device to tape my live music shows and sent a mixing board balanced XLR line level stereo signal mix (Mackie 1402 VLZ) via an XLR pair into the DX-A2S.
The unit attaches conveniently to the tripod mounting on the bottom of any camcorder and has the mounting hole on the bottom of it to attach to a tripod if desired.
It features 2 xlr inputs (independently mic/line switchable), a ground lift switch which is extremely helpful to eliminate hum, left and right attenuator potentiometers, an aux input (1/8" mini) and a stereo/mono switch.
This unit performed beyond my expectations providing a super-clean signal into my camera. The folks at Beachtek didn't scrimp on their transformers.
When I pulled it out of the box it was smaller than I had perceived from the pictures and when attached to the bottom of the camera, it does not make the camera less manageable or cumbersome.
If you're looking to improve the audio on your video recordings with either external balanced microphone signals or balanced mixing board mixes, the DX-A2S is essential and worth every penny.
Personally, I was astounded by the audio quality of this unit.

Superior product if you want high quality audio, August 29, 2008
This review is from: DXA-2S Dual XLR Adapter for Miniature Camcorders (Electronics)
This is an excellent product. It electronically and physically matches XLR microphones to a consumer camcorder. For those who don't understand this, professional microphones have different electrical characteristics than amateur microphones. That is why if you've ever tried to plug a professional mike into your home camcorder directly by simply using a size adapter you've gotten all kinds of weird noises. The signals have to be electronically matched and that is what this device does.
BeachTek customer service has been extremely responsive and helpful when I had a question. You don't get service like this anymore.
The reviewer who gave this product 3 stars noted that the product has a small screw protruding from the top of the device and he said this prevented him from mounting it flush to the bottom of his camcorder. Either his camcorder is an unusual design or he is mounting this device backwards because the screw he is referring to fits neatly into the second unthreaded hole that is on virtually every camcorder. Look on the bottom of yours and you'll see one threaded hole and then another, slightly smaller, unthreaded one. This device is designed to fit that standard configuration and it attaches completely flush and tight onto both my camcorders.
