4.0 out of 5 stars Nice fast and light, not for profesional photographers but still very good.
Had this for a few months now. It is capable of some VERY nice photos and more than decent video.

I would say its only drawbacks are its very poor LOW LIGHT performance. It has a NIGHT setting, but this really does nothing, so do not plan to film dark nightclubs, concerts, night-time camping, etc...

Internal Memory is about 3 pictures, so...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good somewhat
For starters one thing to take in mind with this camcorder is that it's cheap. It isn't a professional camcorder and you shouldn't expect it to be. First thing I noticed about this camcorder is that it has nice quality as advertised, it isn't perfect, but it is much better than a vga camera. The screen is a good size and the batteries last moderately long. They wouldn't...

Internal Memory is about 3 pictures, so remember to get a good Memory Card. If you get a 32gb card, you will run out of batteries about 2 times before you fill that card. I use only 8gb and have chocked it full for days.

It is a little awkward in the hand for long filming, but has a tripod connect on the bottom, which I would say is really required for long family films and weddings.

I do wish it had a lens cap, I worry about scratching when it sits in my pocket.

Overall...stable software, easy to use, very portable, great camera for the price.

They wouldn't last for a 2-3 hour for one event, but since they are AAA, you can bring a spare pack. The zoom works moderately good too, it does jerk a little when zooming in, but hey, its digital zoom and it doesn't degrade the picture too much. Some have said it has bad poor lighting shots, but only if it's an exceptionally dark room. A normal lit room will work fine. The sound is not so good, you can here a lot and some times you can't be heard on the camera. One thing this camera is not good at at all is taking pictures, unless you have a tripod it won't work, but it is a CAMCORDER, not a camera. As an overall camera, if you want to make youtube videos or music videos or some random videos once in a while, this is the camera for you. Otherwise, spend some more for a non-cheap camera.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the price, October 16, 2011
This review is from: DXG 579V Blue Hi-Def Pocket Camcorder (Electronics)
I had a chance to try one of these out for a bit. It was a gift for my nephew. For the price, it is about the best you will find. It was recently $100 anywhere, so it is a convenient price drop.

Pros:
Good video and audio for the price. Records full 720p video and good audio. It is better than some $100+ cameras.
Feels durable.
Compact like most other flip cameras.
Takes good still pictures.
Built in light to help with dark shots.

Cons:
It uses regular batteries. Your best bet is to get a battery charger and rechargeable batteries to use with it.
Limited zoom

It is definitely a no brainer at the current price. Even for someone on a budget, this makes a great little camera for home videos. It is designed for adults in mind, but is cheap enough to make a great gift for a child.

I agree that the batteries do not last long. I also keep struggling with the video portion. I can only record very short videos with poor quality. Funky menus with poor insturctions.

1.0 out of 5 stars A cheap price for an even cheaper product, July 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: DXG 579V Blue Hi-Def Pocket Camcorder (Electronics)
I'll start this review by saying I do know the price of this product. I generally go by "You get what you pay for" and knew that I wouldn't be getting an outstanding product. However, I find it hard to believe a company feels they're selling a good bargain when the product is not even usable.

I pruchased this camera for a specific event. There was a wide variety of sounds, sound levels, and types. Plenty of action, and slow moving scenes too. All were very well lit.

Video

I'd rate the video recording quality of this device at 2 out of 10. The video lags. As in, when moving from left to right, the top of the video refreshes faster than the bottom half. This results in everything "sloping" one way r another based on what direction you're moving. It does the same for up and down motions, except things get taller and shorter based on how you're moving the camera. To compliment all of this, there is some pretty nasty tearing in the video, and ocasional artifacts. This gives your video some very skittish funhouse mirror looks.

Despite that, the actual color quality and clarity of the picture is actually quite nice. If you (for some reason) don't mind your picture being warped all the time, or only plan to use your camera for very slow moving or still shots, then go for it. You would not be dissapointed in the video quality. But, unfortunately....

Sound

The audio recording ability of this device is utter CRAP, 0 out of 10. It sounds like someone with a mouth full of marshmellows and saltines it trying to speak softly into your ear which is snuggled tightly against 3 pillows. I kid you not. The audio quality is so crappy, that you could not make out one single word in any of the clips I recorded the whole weekend. Absolutely nothing could be made out. You should tell what song was playing in the background, but you won't hear a single clear word. This alone renders the camera completely useless.

I can think of only one application where this would be useful, and that's taking tri-pod mounted video of slow moving or still objects which does not require sound of any kind. And in that case you might as well buy a simple point and shoot digital camera. This product is useless in every way. I found out I couldn't return this and I gave it to my little brother. Even he found it useless and asked if he and some friends could smash it up and break it with bats. I was delighted to say "go for it!"

This item was a great disappointment. The packaging was not adequate, the screen was missing a screw causing the screen to have excessive play.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, August 14, 2009

Video quality is less than standard, pictures are even worst, batteries don't last, the only plus is the small size.
