I bought this camera for my 12 year old sons birthday. He has had a cheapo kids camera for about 3 years and took great care of it. Now his technical apptitude is much greater so he asked for specific things like better sound quality and zoom. He and his friends have alot of fun using it. He loves it and says it is very easy to use. I tried it out and uploaded some vidoe onto my cpu and it looks and sounds great. He used it to upload some vidoes onto utube and the qaulity is great on there as well. Very good value.

This is my second purchase of a DXG Camcorder. I lost the original purchase and loved it so much that I decided purchase another one. I am 16 yrs old and I use the camera for entertainment. I produce little films of my friends and I. it is quite easy to use and does all the things that I require

This is a good quality camera at a good price. It films well at low light and the picture is clear. A good buy.

Good little camera, even with a hole burned in the side!,

I purchased this camera about a year ago to film my two little kids and all their silliness. The video quality on this camera is fantastic, though the sound does leave a little something to be desired- if you're behind the camera, the sound is crystal clear, if you're in front, not so much. You are still able to hear sounds, even those 10 or more feet away, but they are a little tinny and there's a hint of white noise. I think this could be corrected with proper video editing software, but that leads to another downside to this camera- its file types are incompatible with BOTH video editing programs I have on my computer, including Windows Movie Maker. I have a mini notebook, so downloading the software that came with it is not an option for me, however, if you have plenty of room on your drive, you should be able to edit videos easily with the included software (I assume, anyway. As I said, I haven't been able to try it out). Now, back to the camera itself...
Controls on the camera take a little getting used to, but once you have them down, they are very easy to use. I didn't use it for a month or two, and still remembered all the functions after my hiatus. My 4 year old daughter even surprised me by taking it off the shelf, turning it on, setting it to "camera" and taking pictures! Another small downside, though it has an 8MP camera built in, it is VERY hard to get a non-blurry photo out of it. If you plan on using it for stills, get a tripod. When you can get a non-blurry still, it is fantastic quality. After owning this camera about 8 months, my husband and kids were wrestling in the living room. I walked in and said "do you smell something burning?" He said "it's just a candle", and I left it at that. About 2 minutes later, I still smelled the burning, and decided to film them playing, so I went to the living to get my camera. Guess what the burning smell was??? My camcorder had been knocked onto a lit candle, and had a hole, about an inch in diameter, melted through the side (my husband immediately blamed the kids)! It was the side with the hand strap, where the battery compartment is. I tried not to cry as I stared at the battery through the hole, and set it aside, thinking I'd buy a new one when I could afford it. The next day, I decided to see if I could still turn it on, and the frigging thing still worked! I see springs, and metal, and the battery, but it still works wonderfully. The only thing I've noticed since this incident is that it gets a little warm if used for an extended period, but that was the case before the melting, so I can't really blame it on that! That's been about 4 months ago, and it's still running strong. Battery life on this camera is also pretty good. I can film about 40 continuous minutes and lose about 2 bars of battery, leaving about half. Downside, when the camera finally tells you "low battery", it shuts of about 2 seconds later. However, as long as you keep an eye on the battery meter, you should be able to tell roughly when you're battery will die. Overall, I give this camera 4 stars. It is small and compact, fits easily into a purse and turns on quickly to catch fleeting moments. While the sound quality and file types are small drawbacks, it is a great little camera for the price.

Nice camera. The only issue I have experienced is the battery charger. I have trouble placing the battery in the charger, kind of strange charger. Otherwise, the camera seems to take nice pictures and downloads are easy enough.

This video camera is great for the teen or younger adult who loves making films and posting to YouTube. The 1080 resolution is good for both viewing and posting to the net.

Toy Like Quality & Terrible Support,
This review is from: DXG 580V Hi-Def Camcorder (Blueish-Black) (Electronics)
Recently had received a DXG 533V camera as a Xmas gift from a family member. It's a HD model sold via the Shopping Channel and pretty much the same unit as the 535 and 580 models.
First impression out of the box was cheap plasticy and gimmicky. Controls were the first source of utter frustration, just trying find out how to turn the damn thing on or start recording was a pain in the ass. Nothing was intuitive or clearly marked. Swear to God someone in China who never had used a camera in their life must have been given the task for the design of this thing. I could give a dozen things but here's just a couple . There's a tiny little scroll type wheel that you have to ever so carefully try and use to scroll with your thumb for a whole variety of functions being extremely carefully not to at the same time be pressing it to hard while trying to scroll otherwise you will inadvertently be making a selection of something you don't want to select. And yes within a day of using it this happened while simply trying to delete one vid all our vids got deleted with no "Are you sure you want to delete all files?" option being givin as a safe guard. In addition the recording quality was pitiful with numerous vids having sound and picture out of sync and audio recording of musical instruments sounding wobbly in places etc. In addition there's no way to use the camera as a HD webcam or as a direct feed Movie Maker type software as most other cameras do now which was a major drawback. Then when we couldn't find the CD driver that came with it we went to the website to try and download it only to find no listing for this model at all. Called today and tried to get an answer why there was no listing and got some very rude tech support guy that basically gave no apology for the frustration and hassle I had to go through in not finding it on their site and just dismissed the issue by saying well you don't need it to download vids to my computer anyway. (Well my computer running Vista actually does not recognize this camera when plugged in and doesn't find the drivers.) I tried to explain that my original question was how do I get the download of the proper drivers that came with the camera he starting pulling some A Hole power trip on me claiming I interrupted him etc. and just got belligerent with me. I told him where to stick it and hung up. Only reason hadn't immediately returned it was it was a gift and didn't want to offend a family member by telling them what a frustration the whole camera had been. So my advice, stay clear of all that this company has to offer. Cheers |
