5.0 out of 5 stars Versatile printer at an affordable price!
This printer replaced an old Seiko Instruments label printer that had pretty much died of old age. I opted for the non-Turbo model as speed wasn't a necessity for me, plus it saved a few bucks. Within 15 min. I had it hooked up, software installed, and printing. The print quality excellent. Software installation was painless (Win98SE and XP Pro), as is changing the labels...

This printer replaced an old Seiko Instruments label printer that had pretty much died of old age. I opted for the non-Turbo model as speed wasn't a necessity for me, plus it saved a few bucks. Within 15 min. I had it hooked up, software installed, and printing. The print quality excellent. Software installation was painless (Win98SE and XP Pro), as is changing the labels when switching between the various sizes this printer is capable of handling. I installed via the serial port since I didn't have a vacant USB port. The package includes everything you'll need to get started, including both a USB and serial cable, and a sample package of large labels.

I found a couple of bonus features that prove to be useful. First- you can share this printer over a network simply by configuration and installing the software on the other computers. Second- there is an additional piece of software titled "Address Fixer" that will correctly format any US address to USPS standards (including the Zip+4 zip code) via your Internet connection.

Overall, I'm very pleased with my LabelWriter 330 and would recommend it to others shopping for this type of product.

I'm using this Dymo Labelwriter in a professional environment to print labels for a color dispensing system. Since the various locations, which use them, are spread all over the US reliability is extremely important to me. So far I have not experienced any problems. The printer works great with Microsoft Access applications and the print quality is superb.
I probably wouldn't recommend it as a gadget for home use (I couldn't see a need for it), but for professional use this is a great printer.

5.0 out of 5 stars it's become an "instant necessity.", April 15, 2002
This review is from: DYMO LabelWriter 330 Label Printer (Office Product)
i've had my labelwriter 330 for under a week, and am still finding good uses for it. it's the kind of gadget i find myself telling friends about.

a number of things impress me about the unit. first, when unpacking it from the box, the ingenious packaging made a great impression. rather than a load of styrofoam, it was sitting on a piece of cardboard that had stretch wrap fastened to two "wings" on either side. when the wings folded down under the base, they tensioned the stretch wrap, holding the unit securely. very ingenious, very elegant, and a sign of the quality of thinking that went into the design.

the unit installed itself flawlessly. tho' windows xp drivers are now out, i just used the drivers on the included CD which work fine. the software is very intuitive, and i didn't really need to read the manual, tho' it did have some good tips. particularly nice is ability to right-click and copy a graphic from anywhere, and paste it onto a label. resizing or rotating the graphic is easy, as is doing the layout of the label.

having a button appear in palm desktop and MS word that automatically extracts and prints an address is kind of cool. if i want to send something to a person in my palm address book, i just highlight their record and click the labelwriter icon at the top right of the palm desktop window. it pops open the labelwriter window, allowing me to edit or change the address, and offering the option of the postnet bar code (and its placement). same in MS word.

tho' i don't do mailing lists, it seems as if it'll do everything for that, too. it even allows using palm desktop as a mailing list manager: when in the address book, it offers to print "current contact" "all contacts" "current selection" or "all contacts in current catagory."

the intelligence and thoughtfulness that's gone into the design of this unit and software really shines thru. i've got no connection with dymo (i'm a primary care doc, writer, and gadget geek): i'm just a *very* satisfied customer.

I used it almost daily, but certainly within the scope of what they consider "normal usage". Nice product concept, but cheaply built and very badly quality controlled (it gets VERY hot when running, which is probably the design flaw that has lead to both failures). Definitely a sub-standard product for the price.

2.0 out of 5 stars DYMO label smears problem being ignored, May 27, 2005
This review is from: DYMO LabelWriter 330 Label Printer (Office Product)
I was a great fan of my Dymo until I realized that many of the labels smear because of the heat when being processed at the Post Office. If you put the label where you would usually put the address of someone you are mailing, the label will smear badly and become unreadable. I've brought the problem up to Dymo several times but have never received an adequate explanation of what they are doing to solve the problem. This is a serious problem since there is a chance many letters may not be getting through. I now use my Dymo only for labeling files and return addresses... I wondered why I did not get responses from people I sent letters to.. apparently the never got them... Send a few test envelopes to yourself to see the extent of the problem...

4.0 out of 5 stars Dymo 300 and EL 40 are good but can have a common problem, July 17, 2002
By
This review is from: DYMO LabelWriter 330 Label Printer (Office Product)
Hi, I am a computer/network tech that has worked with customers who use the Dymo 300 and EL40. Most of our customers who use the Dymo label printers named above, love them. However, there is a problem associated with both models that I have seen.

The problem is that the print head eventually seems to move away from the feed roller. When this happens, because the print head loses contact with the label, either nothing is printed or the print fades from one side of the label, (from the side which the print head has least contact)horizontally to the other.

Dymo was glad to fix the three I sent them previously and now I have three more to send back. The print heads on these models have a lifetime warranty so cost isn't really an issue. It is an inconvenience for our customers however. The problem may be a heavy use issue or a time issue (the print head moves away over time). I haven't been able to get any information as to a good fix for these yet. For us, it seems to happen about every 8 months.

Nice printers and decent software with them, just have a consistent problem. A spare or two depending on your situation would probably be good. Also, there is a 48 hr. turn around time for repair. So expect to get your unit back in about 5 days or so with the wait for mailing.

This product is a great performer for how I use it, to quickly make file folder and address labels. I see another reviewer had problems integrating it with Word. I use this as a standalone product with the software it ships with to make quick labels when I need them. It is flawless in that task. I cannot speak to issues of integration with other products.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this Machine, August 6, 2002

Love this unit so much that I now have 3, all loaded with different size labels: Address, shipping & folders.

The shipping label is very nice because the software lets you configure a standard return address using your own font / size etc, looks professionally done!! As to the address labels, makes printing addresses for envelopes a snap. The file folder labels are extremely convenient & make it easy for me to whip out a new label for a folder - which is nice because it encourages the "filing" habit.

Highly recommended...

5.0 out of 5 stars Dymo saved us thousands, January 4, 2005
This review is from: DYMO LabelWriter 330 Label Printer (Office Product)
My company hosts job fairs for the health care industry. For the first ten events we organized, we contracted a company to handle registration at our shows. Come to find out, we could do it ourselves. And save thousands in the process.

We purchased three DYMO 330 Label Printers and kept the responsibility of printing the attendee name badges in-house. The result was we saved thousands and will continue to save money each time we host another show. Much to the delight of our office manager, Gail, it was a smooth transition and rather painless.

The DYMO program is easy to use and we can manipulate the badges to print however we like. Plus, we will now use the program to print shipping labels for other aspects of our business.

In the short time we've owned the machines, we have increased productivity. We will continue to find ways to use the machines for our job fairs and other ventures in the company.

Being a dual platform office, I use the 330 on both a G4 with OS X and a PC using XP Professional and the Dymo works great. My office prints between 25-35 shipping labels daily and the Dymo has been a true workhorse for the past few months. Can't imagine an office NOT having one!
