5.0 out of 5 stars Works GREAT for Paypal Shipping!!!
I was a little worried at first when I ordered this label printer. I sell on eBay and use the PayPal multi-order shipping tool. I was not sure if this model (450 turbo) would be compatible. They list the former model (400/400 turbo) I emailed PayPal and they assured me this would in deed work with their system. I have been using the label printer for a couple months...

2.0 out of 5 stars Beware - may be nearly unless unless you pay $9.95 monthly fee
The physical printer is great. I love being able to print an address label and then ten seconds later do a stamp without having to switch rolls of paper.

Up until today I would have given this thing a five star rating.

I have been using the label printer for a couple months now with no issues! When using the PayPal shipping I just have to select Dymo 400 turbo before printing. I ordered label 99019 and they are perfect for printing address, postage and confirmation all on one label. The labels print in seconds! It has saved so much time and I know that in no time at all the price of the printer will be made up for in the money I will save on paper, ink and packing tape! Set-up was easy. I have been told the included software is no good, but I printed a return address label just to try it and it seems pretty easy.

The physical printer is great. I love being able to print an address label and then ten seconds later do a stamp without having to switch rolls of paper.

Up until today I would have given this thing a five star rating.

I just spent the last half hour trying to figure out how to print postage to mail a book. I could not find the option to print $2.77 worth of postage (for a media mail package), no matter how hard I looked.

I just learned, from the DYMO website, that despite the listing for this item stating that I can, "Print USPS® approved DYMO Stamps® postage directly from your desktop -no monthly fee, contracts or commitments required," printing is limited to First Class, Priority Mail, Postcard and International Air Mail postage.

If I (and you) want to print postage for packages we must pay $9.95 per month (!!!) or $99.95 per year (!!!) for the privilege.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best gift ever, September 25, 2010

Say hello to never standing in line at the post office again. I got this for my husband for Christmas and he still is talking about it being the best gift he ever got. Every time neither one of us has to go to the post office the gift gives all over again! It works great, is easy and highly satisfying to print your own little postage.

I didn't spring for the larger package with the double printer and don't regret it. Also, you can buy much cheaper rolls of the stamp paper than the DYMO brand.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great as a receipt printer!, December 7, 2010

My fiance needed a receipt printer for her new business. When I first started looking, I had found only "true" POS-style receipt printers costing $300+. Knowing that receipt printers are simply overpriced thermal printers, I decided to look for thermal printers not billed as receipt printers. I dont know why I didnt think of Dymo first! This is a great product that is designed with label and postage printing in mind, but Dymo sells continuous thermal receipt paper rolls for it as well. This turns out to be the most cost efficient thermal receipt printer on the market, IMO. This is exactly what I was looking for. Only 4 stars, because I dont want Dymo to think theres no room for improvement.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hardware good, software not that much, August 10, 2010

One good quality of the DYMO products was ablility to be used together with CRM's software like GOLDMINE, for instance, but now the latest version 8.x DYMO application does not support that anymore. It is a pitty such good product have lost this ability. I have to keep using the 7.x version and also I'm not sure how I will do it when using Windows 7 version.

3.0 out of 5 stars a nightmare for a Mac small biz owner using Paypal, January 18, 2010

This review is from: DYMO LabelWriter 450 Turbo High-Speed Postage and Label Printer for PC and Mac, USB, Printer and Software, Black/Silver (1752265) (Office Product)
Let me start by saying that the DYMO printers are GREAT, but, not for small business owners who want to print shipping labels via Paypal from a Mac computer. If you want to print your shipping labels with this DYMO through Paypal, you have to use a PC. Macs will only print via Paypal with a monthly [...] subscription.

The upside to this label maker is that it only took me 10 min. to download the e-files from the software CD to print stamps or labels. I could easily design and print either within 20 min. from opening the box. While I only wanted it for shipping from Paypal, I soon found out from my label supplier on eBay that this DYMO and Paypal are incompatible -- yes, that's Paypal's fault, not DYMO's.

I recommend this product only for Mac people who want to print simple standard-sized postage or labels for files/folders (obviously not for shipping from Paypal), and for PC owners who want to do everything with it.

UPDATE: I since purchased a DYMO 4XL from B&H in NYC after having a tremendous increase in volume in my online store and really needing a fast and reliable label printer for shipping. I do have to subscribe to Endicia to use it, but it is VERY MUCH worth it. I can now attest first hand to the quality of DYMO products!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great Paypal with Mac, other uses perhaps less so, November 16, 2010

What's good:
- Works fine with a Mac
- Works with the paypal postage setup (see a user (not me!) submitted image at the top of the page)
- Works fine as a general purpose label printer

That's what I wanted and it gets five stars for that.

What's not good:
(These are not of interest to me, but it's important to not count on the printer for these...)
- You can't print postage other than 1st class, postcard, & priority mail using DYMO's free service
- Their service that does allow general printing costs money each month
- Frankly the software isn't very good

I had a bit of trouble getting this printer to work with my computer (it's a mac) - I had to go to the website and download the latest software, and for some reason I had to install it twice. Even then, if I want to print barcodes from the web I can only do it in Safari. As for the actual quality of the printer though - it's great. It's very quick, perfectly crisp, and since it's thermal, it never needs ink and the labels don't smudge. I'd definitely recommend it if you do a lot of label printing. If you don't do a lot of printing, you could probably save some money by getting the non-turbo version, which seems pretty much the same but slower.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cannot recommend it highly enough, February 2, 2011

I run an office with 10 people, and I purchased one of these primarily to print address labels. From day one it has worked flawlessly - a robust, easy-to-use device (it is integrated with MS Office, so you just click on the icon within Office and you're in) that does exactly what it needs to do beautifully, virtually instantly and with excellent print quality. No need for toners or inks, as it is a heat-transfer device. Take a minute to design your own labels and your company logo gets printed onto the label as well, enhancing your correspondence and saving on custom envelopes.

We use it for address, file folder, shipping, and hanging file tab labels, all of which load easily, and because you can back the labels to the start after loading them to there's no waste. One thing we did that made this all the more attractive is to use the aftermarket labels available here on Amazon from Labels & More, and the quality is indecipherable from the OEM ones, at a fraction of the cost - we buy 'em in bulk to further reduce cost.

I cannot recommend these printers highly enough, and they're reasonably priced and useful enough to have several within the same office - I plan to keep this one and add the LabelWriter Twin next as it saves having to switch out the rolls as much.
