Compared to the ancient Dymo label machines I used to use, this unit has been a complete pleasure. It does not offer a lot of choices for type style or size, but if you are looking for a simple unit which uses paper or plastic tape, this is a good choice. Some have commented that the Dymo labels are not durable so I ran a test, placing a label on the front edge of my desk and deliberately subjecting it to wear for several weeks. The label did not peel, chip or fade.

LABELER CRAZY!!!!,
By
This review is from: DYMO Letratag QX 50 Label Printer (Office Product)
I bought this and went labeler crazy. Just make sure that you push the tape ALL THE WAY in, otherwise, it'll come out on the bottom instead of in the middle. There is a little piece that holds the tape cover in that fell of the first time I used it, but I just made a label that said "labeler" and taped it together. The labels wear very well (they went through my niece's bookbag, and believe me, she is not kind to her notebooks, and the labels are unscathed *clear label tape*
It comes with one roll of regular tape, but I'd buy the 3 pack if I were you so you have plenty and don't get frustrated when you run out in the middle of a project. Plus it's cheaper that way and you'll use it because it's fun with this labeler. The little boxes and underlines and the different fonts are nice and they work. All the keys work and you don't even need to read the manual. Great buy!

I purchased this labeler to help organize my offices at work and at home. I was not expecting an outstanding performer considering the higher-priced alternatives available. This labeler performs as described and does not offer a lot of extra features. You have a few font-style options and font sizes, but not many. I only need it for labeling file folders or drawers, so the lack of fancy features is not a big issue for me. Also, the compact size makes it easier to transport between work and home.
It's kind of odd that this labeler took 5 batteries, instead of 4 or 6. So, you will have an odd number of batteries floating around for a little while, unless you are able to find a 5-pack somewhere. The batteries have worked well for me so far. Though, if you plan to use it frequently or if it will be used by multiple people, it might be best to get a labeler with an AC adapter. The extra cost will pay for itself with the money saved on replacing batteries. Personally, I preferred one with batteries due to the lower cost and so I could transport it between work and home pretty easily. I'm the only one using it, so it has worked fine for me so far. This labeler does waste a little bit of tape before and after the printed label, but it did not seem excessive to me. However, you can easily avoid excessive waste by typing multiple labels at once (separated by 1-2 spaces) and printing them together. It is not very often that I desperately need to print only 1 label, so I usually print 2-3 (or more) labels at once to save tape.

Simple and effective,

Making labels may not be the most fun thing in the world, but sometimes you just have to do. The "Dymo(R) LetraTag QX50 Labeler" makes a tedious job just that much easier.
I had to organize and label about 400 files for my work, which was a daunting task when I was faced with using the label printing function on our printer. If a mistake was made, or any changes, then I would be stuck with a few hundred unusable labels. Fortunately, I decided to pick up this labeler instead. A wise decision. There is not a lot to this machine. Type in what you want, then hit the "Print" button. There is a small cutting button on the side that cuts the label, and you are done. Push print button to repeat. There is not much variation here for font or size of letters, but those aren't functions I was looking for. You can also do letters, which is handy. Changing the label tapes is a snap, and I have had no problems to speak of. If you are looking for an easy labeler, then this is the one for you. Now excuse me while I go back to making those labels...

POSITIVES:
1. Absolute steal on a GoldBox deal at $20. Got an extra cartridge for another $6 to qualify for free shipping. 2. It's SUPER easy to use...just pop in the batteries and cartridge, type and press "Print." That's literally it. Big plus if you're worried about it being complicated. I didn't even open the instruction book. NEGATIVES: 1. While you do have a choice of three or four text styles and orientations, the font is grainy and pixelated. As a result, the labels are very cheap looking. They don't look professional at all, so beware if you'll be using this for something formal or official. I don't think they look good enough for that...fine for home labeling needs though. 2. The label paper is very thin and flimsy. They also aren't very sticky on the back. You may be able to order higher quality label cartridges to remedy this, but I don't know. 3. Uses a lot of batteries (5 AA) and there is no port for AC power. Battery only. BOTTOM LINE: Not horrible, but not great. I wouldn't pay the full price ($45) for this item. I would be very disappointed in it if I had. It does what I needed it to do and was very inexpensive. If you're not expecting much, this will be fine for you. If you need more professional looking labels, I'd pass.

This labeller is a decent machine for the money. The thing that makes it easy to use are the cartridges. Its also the the same thing that makes it expensive to use. It eats labels like they are going out of style! Buy alot of the labels as they are about $7.00 each. You can get a value pack for less if you buy them in bulk. The machine is easy to use though and is an excellent way to organize all the crap you have around the house that needs organizing. One think I don't like however is the labels are sort of difficult to peel once they are cut off from the machine.
Hope this helped you make a decision!

Just as others have said. This machine is nothing fancy, no special type, no bells and whistles. But it's easy to understand, easy to operate and works like a charm. A great deal for someone with basic labeling needs.

Great Label Maker & Best of the Dymo Models,
By
This review is from: DYMO Letratag QX 50 Label Printer (Office Product)
This is a great label maker -- much nicer than the Brother brand label makers we have at work. This is the best of the Dymo label makers (I have three different LetraTag models). Beware of providers that will substitute the LT-100T, instead. The caps and shift keys and the QWERTY keyboard of the QX-50 are much more convenient than those of all of the other Dymo models. The QX-50 is also significantly more compact than the LT-100T -- about the size of a hand spread open.
The Dymo LetraTag labels have a split backing that makes them significantly easier to start peeling than those of the similar Brother label maker.

DYMO LetraTag QX50 not bad for the price,

This review is from: DYMO Letratag QX 50 Label Printer (Office Product)
I bought my DYMO label printer a couple of years ago at a special price from a big box store. For the price that you pay, it's not a bad machine. My biggest complaint is that the rubber buttons get stuck in the down position easily, and you certainly can't type very quickly on the keyboard (but then, you're not typing an essay, right?) The QWERTY layout is nice, but special characters aren't always easy to produce. It requires two hands to operate which, fortunately, I have.
In my experience, the Dymo 10697 1/2in X 13ft Letratag White Paper Tape (2-Tapes) works better than the plastic one on surfaces that are NOT flat. The plastic tape has a tendency to try to straighten itself out and come off. However, the plastic tape wears well. I used it on a food container that would get washed with the dishes every couple of weeks, and the writing lasted for over a year before fading. The five AA batteries last a long time. There is no A/C adapter, and no computer interface, but I suppose that's too much to expect from a value-priced unit. For bringing order to your organizing project, this is a good little printer. |
