DaVinci Kalani Combo Dresser - White

We ordered this product along with a matching crib (DaVinci Kalani Convertible Baby Crib - Cherry). These appeared to be a nice middle-ground between the really cheap particle-board and cardboard dressers at $200 and the (beautiful) Amish solid wood pieces at $1400+. The crib is wonderful, and aside from scratching easily it is fantastic.

This dresser, however, is another story. In addition to the solid wood frame, the drawers have particleboard frame, and the drawer bottoms are the thinnest, cheapest cardboard you can find. All of the hardware in the dresser is of poor quality, which caused numerous problems during assembly. In one case, the screws pulverized the particleboard and I needed to purchase a new screw, drill my own hole, and hope that I didn't destroy the wood in doing so.

As other reviewers have mentioned, the drawers also come apart fairly often (once/month). I have been tempted to glue the drawers to decrease this frequency. My concern with that is that the cardboard is so cheap, that I'm not sure it would hold up to the gluing, and I think that might be the end of the drawers.

The entire unit sways a little bit too. Tightening it only makes it worse (yikes!).

Overall a big disappointment. It looks beautiful, but it won't hold up. We should have either spent less, or more on something that will really last.

First I must say, when I purchased this dresser it was listed at $329 (not the current $499). I actually called and inquired to amazon about the price to make sure it was accurate.

I recieved the dresser super quick and my husband inspected the pieces and put it together. He was impressed with how sturdy it is and he is not easily impressed. He realized when putting on one of the final pieces (the small top) that one corner was damaged and the wood was coming apart. I made a 10 minute call to million dollar baby (the manufacturer) and they sent out the damaged pieces (I had a piece damaged on the matching crib) via fed ex. We had them within a week!

Great product, great manufacturer customer service and great price (although I don't know if I could pay the current $499 price for this dresser).

This dresser is great and looks very nice in the babies' room. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because it took 5 hours to put together (have 2 screwdrivers and it may not take you as long :) ) It is very sturdy and will work great as a changing table also.

The item is not sturdy. This is an expensive baby piece of furniture. It scratches MUCH TOO EASILY!In placing the book case unit over the dresser- it made a dent- and that was with VERY LITTLE movement or pressure. Then the Wood cracked where the screws were inserted- again with very little pressure. The pieces are good to look at- and look attractive. However, the pricing is quite high and not worth the workmanship quality.

I really love the look of this dresser and how quickly I recieved it. Putting it together took me 4 hours single handed so with more help may take less time. Directions were a little tricky as far as which piece is which but it wasn't that hard to figure out. My biggest complaint is the drawers after assembly they go in fine but get stuck a little at the end I have to push a little harder to get them to shut all the way. The bottom of the drawers are also thin pieces of wood that don't quite fit the drawer so it slides up and down but again not that big of a deal. Another concern is the inside of the cabinet the two shelves just sit inside which is not sturdy. It would be alot better if there were more pegs to keep the top shelf steady. The bottom one is litteraly just placed and slides back and forth and can come out with ease which is not a good thing for the little ones. The look overall is very nice and I didn't have any problems with scratches I even dropped a piece an it didn't scratch. Mostly just minor things to keep in mind but maybe not something you would want to deal with for the amount of money you would be spending on this product.

Nice dresser once we got it put together. Would have been easier to put together if the pieces were labeled to go with the instructions. It looks great in our baby's room and we will be using the longer area as a changing table.

We ordered this combo and the matching crib over two months ago, and it took about a month to deliver. At that point, we found a broken piece, and immediately let customer service know. It took about a week for them to respond with a request for more information. We replied, and they responded with a second request for even more information after another week. When we replied with all of the information that they had requested, they did not respond at all. We emailed them once to twice per week (couldn't find a phone number) and they finally responded that it would take another two months to get the replacement part in stock. Our baby is due a week after they said they would ship the replacement part, so my husband finally just glued the broken part the best he could and assembled the dresser. The furniture is gorgeous and seems to be very functional, but the customer service is atrocious. I've read in other reviews that it is common for the furniture to arrive broken or scratched, as well.

I was hesitant to buy this product because many reviews said it fell apart and the instructions were horrible.

Since i already had the crib(which was fine quality and instructions were adequate) and wanted the matching dresser, i went ahead with the purchase.

First off, the quality of parts were no less than anything in the price range i inspected at multiple stores, if you want something better you will need to spend a lot more. The instructions were not bad at all. I had no issues putting this together and moving at a slow pace, it was about 3 hours.

I am very satisfied with this purchase and it is better than anything i saw in the stores in the same price range. If this dresser falls apart for some people, its probably more an issue with the person who put it together than the dresser.

After reading the reviews for the crib I decided that though the reviews for the dresser were just ok, they were ok enough to buy to have the set. Be prepared to pull your hair out in the beginning when you open the 2 boxes it comes in. The direction sheet it comes with is almost worthless. It was slightly helpful in identifying which screws go where. NOTHING is labeled part A, B, screws H8, so you just have to guess the entire way through. My dads a handyman and can normally put things like this together with his eyes closed but he got really frustrated. It does get less frustrating once you have the frame of the dresser built out but I guess that's to be expected. For the sanity of the main builder, I recommend 2 people work on this together at least till the frame is up. Another piece of advice is to be careful about using power tools with this. Since you're guessing on placement of boards and screws it's easy to put the wrong thing in the wrong place and if you're using a drill the board just disintegrates.

I guess I didn't know better but I was really expecting much better quality for the price. Not like oak or something but I was not prepared for the entire thing to be made out of particle board. It's honestly a piece of garbage and the only reason it's not getting sent back is because my fiancé and dad agreed that to get the quality I wanted (solid wood), it would get to be thousands for each piece. If that's the case we can wait till baby's old enough for a regular bed.

What I will say for this very crappy piece of furniture is that once built, you can't really tell how crappy it actually is. It looks nice and that's why it got 2 stars instead of 1.
