This review is from: A Dachshund's Wish (Paperback)
"A Dachshund's Wish" offers an inviting story peopled by engaging characters of many species. While aimed at eight-year-olds, this suggested age obtains only if the children are reading the book themselves. Parents who read to children will find an eager audience in much younger children as well. Even pre-schoolers will be taken by the enchanting illustrations.
This book is not only entertaining, it unobtrusively conveys strong positive messages about self acceptance/self respect and of acceptance, appreciation and respect for others, differences notwithstanding. This book has delighted all the children to whom I've sent it ranging from nine-years-old down to three.

I loved this book! Joe Tavano creates a magical world for Paws and you get to go along for the ride. I would have loved this book as a kid. I didn't grow up with a dog, but always wanted one, and if I'd read this book I know I would have begged for a dachshund. Joe Tavano weaves good lessons for kids into the story unobtrusively. The way he writes about the love Paws feels for his family (and vice versa) is priceless. Even if a kid can't have a dog, they can read about Paws. Go buy this book!

I loved this book! It's a must-buy for dachshund owners. I liked that the positive messages were not overbearing. Somewhat reminiscent of "It's a Wonderful Life" and "The Wizard of Oz". No one else has mentioned it, but I liked the message that everything has a price, even wishes.

This review is from: A Dachshund's Wish (Paperback)
Written by animal welfare supporter Joe Tavano and illustrated by Ji Yu, A Dachshund's Wish is a trade paperback story written especially for young readers who are ready to take the next step from picturebooks to chapter books. Watercolor-style illustrations of a cheerful young dachshund and the animals he meets add a vibrant touch to this heartwarming story, in which young Paws' searches for The Great Mae to have his dearest wish granted - the wish to become a boy instead of a puppy. But when he meets The Great Mae, he learns that there are more to appearances - both those of living creatures and those of innermost wishes - than he ever guessed. Highly recommended.

My grandchildren love this book as a bedtime story. Even my daughter who reads it to them likes the story and finds it easy to get the kiddies into bed so as to listen to the next installment.

A Dachshund's Wish is a delightful story of a dachshund who want's to be something he's not...a real boy! It could have been written about my own dachshund dog! Great read for children young and old!
