Beautiful and Bittersweet,
By
This review is from: Dad Loves His Work (Audio CD)
"Dad Loves His Work" has always been one of my favorite James Taylor albums. There's an emotionally-engaging melancholy that weaves its way through even the more up-beat songs on the album which makes you really feel every word JT sings."Follow Love" is a wonderful song, one of my favorites from JT's career, definitely the most uplifting moment on the album. "True believer that I am/I am blind--lead me on..." Beautifully sung. I always get chills when he improvises vocally over the fade-out. JT is in great voice throughout this album and the lyrics and music are all deeply resonant. "Hard Times," "Her Town Too," "Believe It Or Not," "Only For Me," and "That Lonesome Road," are among the other excellent tracks on this bittersweet but ultimately buoyant recording. Highly recommended to any James Taylor fan, and anyone who finds beauty in an occasional melancholy mood.

Worthwhile just for "Stand and Fight",

Sometimes you buy an album just for one song, and "Stand and Fight" makes James Taylor's DAD LOVES HIS WORK worth buying. Taylor upstaged no less than Bruce Springsteen with "Stand and Fight" when he performed it in the "No Nukes" concert film. The hard-driving protest tune loses no impact on DAD LOVES HIS WORK. The rest of the LP varies from routine to pleasant and includes the hit "Her Town, Too."

Classic James Taylor. From soft rock "Her town too" to rippin' rock & roll "Stand & Fight" the guy can do it all!! In my opinion the best in all of Rock & Roll.
