I bought Daddy Calls Me Doodlebug and Mommy Calls Me Monkeypants for my son, even though I realize he was a little older than the target market. Thought they were sooooo cute. As it turned out, so did he! He's 5 so some of the board books in his world have been set aside, but now that he's learning to read some are resurfacing. He did the most interesting thing with the Mommy/Daddy books. He realized there was a pattern between them and wanted to read them simultaneously, page by page and compare. Then read them backwards together. Curious :), but fun. He wants Daddy to read the "Daddy" one and Mommy to read the "Mommy" one. The illustrations are lovely and the wording is clever, fun and catchy. He loves adding his own nickname in there too with a nice rhyme! Very creative and family friendly books for all!

This book reflects on love and playfulness between a father and a child, while capturing the warmth of dadies' adorable nicknames for their babies.

Kids can learn animals' names, their appearance, and habitat. Every page has a rhyming couplet about animal behavior:

"Daddy calls me Hockey Puck ... we slip and slide on ice!" (about penguins)
"Daddy calls me Goo-and-Go... we make some mucky messes. (about snails)

Hiroe Nakata's colorful watercolor artwork captures the spirit of the book perfectly - simple, sweet, and charming!

"Daddy calls me Doodlebug" is a companion title to "Mommy Calls Me Monkeypants" by J.D. Lester.

I was so happy to see JD Lester's second book come out. I have given out about ten copies so far, and my friends' children always love it. As in the author's previous "Mommy" book, the rhymes in this "Daddy" book are very cute and clever. The children can learn to name the animals from the pictures and rhymes, and learn about key animal features, like snowy owls blending in, whales communicating, and raccoons dousing their food. For example, here's one of my favorite lines: "Daddy calls me Rub-a-Dub... we scrub-a-dub our treasure. Daddy calls me Itty Bit... a teeny-tiny measure." (Can you guess the two animals?) I have found this book to be an ideal gift for children, and recommend to anyone with a toddler!

I bought this book because both of my girls (ages 3 and 1) loved the similar book "Mommy Calls Me Monkeypants." This book is just as good as the original story. The pictures are fun and colorful. We get to see all new daddy-and-baby animals having fun together. The prose is simple but flows well and has the same great message: daddies of all kinds love their babies very much. A family favorite.

This is a great companion to Lester's MOMMY CALLS ME MONKEYPANTS. It's never too early to start reading with children, and Lester's playful language partnered with the breezy illustrations makes this a story time favorite. Not only that, it's a perfect gift for Father's Day! You can't go wrong with any of Lester's books for the toddlers in your family!

We love reading this book to our little girl. We even bought the companion, Mommy calls me monkeypants, because each book is so fun. The drawings are great and have some little details that make multiple reads fun.

Simple but sweet story of Daddy-baby pairs, starting and ending with human, going through a number of animals in between. It is nice to find a book about Daddy. We were given three about Mommy, so felt we needed some balance, and were surprised at how few seemed to be available.
