5.0 out of 5 stars Daddy
Danielle Steel's "Daddy" was the best novel i have ever read. All 386 pages were filled with emotion and romance and it was so exciting. Oliver Watson and his three children, Benjamin, Mel, and Sam, and Oliver's ex-wife, Sarah, cause so much emotion through out the book.

When SArah leaves her family in Purchase you want to hate her. However, you realize...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not A Page Turner!
After reading Silent Honor, A Pefect Stranger and many before, I thought I really loved Danielle Steel's books. But then...I read Fine Things and then Daddy, I didn't like all two of them. I noticed that in these three books, that someone leaves and then their spouse quickly remarries. Kind of the same plot over and over!
I feel that her best book was The Promise,...

However, you realize she is doing what she has always wanted but never been able to do. When charlie comes into thier lives you think that she is the perfect woman for Oliver and the family. When Charlie gets asked " Are you .... are you Charollette Sampson?" and she replies "No the names Watson" you know that Oliver has finally found his happiness in life.

From the title "Daddy" I thought the story would be about a screw up father who does nothing but screw up his family. But i was wrong, it ended up to be the mother that hurt the family. Oliver Watson was the ideal father;eventhough, there were times that things got too out of control he alwys seemed to gain back the control. "Daddy" by Danieele Steel is a perfect ten.I recommend this book to anyone who likes romance and lots of emotion; you honestly can not put this book down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good... with a different spin on the normal..., May 13, 2002
By
This review is from: Daddy (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book, and the movie, too. Danielle Steel put a different spin on this one, showing us the life through the eyes of the man... and showing what a dedicated father can accomplish, when his own world falls apart. When his wife goes back to school, Oliver must take care of the house and children, as well as his own career. Unfortunately, his wife continues to pull away... leaving us a great deal of emotions to read through of the children and the parents. Pulling the family together may be an impossible feat, however, Oliver does his best and finds an outcome he can live with. Danielle Steel is very talented, and in this story she dug deep into a problem that has routinely been made into stories about mothers... but this time the story is told about the father.

5.0 out of 5 stars A different look of how men deal, December 28, 2002
This review is from: Daddy (Paperback)
This book was the perfect example of what a man would have deal with when his wife leaves him with the kids instead of him leaving her. I was happy with the fact that DS made him work at it instead of having him say some meaningful things about the mother Sarah leaving and the kids accepting it and everything going smoothly we all know there are bound to be some troubles the perfect example is Ben the oldest son getting his girlfriend pregnant. I was REALLLY happy when the father Oliver got his second chance just like Sarah took hers I found myslef hating the mother for putting her children in that situation what kind of mother does that but on the other hand being a woman I understand her actions she wanted to know when was it going to be her turn? To live life without having to worry about kids and a husband or what to make to for dinner? I loved this book and I think everyone should read it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tear Jerker, November 30, 2000

This review is from: Daddy (Paperback)
I read this book months ago and I decided to scan through the book once again so I can write a fair reviews here in Amazon. Reading DADDY the second time made me appreciate it even more. This is one of the few books I've read & liked that is not a historical romance novel. D.S wrote a very realistic family drama & lotsa hearty circumstances, which can happend to anyone.

When Sara left Oliver Watson & the three children to pursue her own dreams, I thought she was merely wanting to go to school. I was sympathetic to her in the beginning because she sacrificed her dreams for Oliver & the children. I thought it wouldn't hurt for her to chase back that dream since the children are "somewhat" grown ups. However, when she decide to ask for TIME for herself & begun to make excuses in seeing the children, I didn't liked that idea at all. Worst, when she wanted a divorce & left the children with Oliver, I hated her. I cannot imagine a mother doing such a thing. Sad! No matter what, she have responsibilities & obligations to the children. Oliver Watson thought he had it all. He was successful in his carreer, had a family, a house... until Sara left him & the children. He then realized how challenging being a full time father could be. It was very difficult in the beginning yet in the end, he found out that his effort was very rewarding. He found happiness & pride in knowing his own kids. He learned from them & not only became a trusted father but a friend as well. I really felt sorry for Oliver in the beginning... but then at the end, I though he was better off with someone who truly loves him & his children-unconditionally.

The children in this book was portrayed realistically. Their reactions to the divorce, to their mother & to their father- From guilt to rebellions... fears to hate... then love, trust & acceptance! ...all understandable & very heart quenching! Lots of overwhelming & heart warming scenes in this book. The reason why I didn't rate this book a 5 star was because it was too heavy for me. Too dramatic perhaps. Too sad. Even if it was a happy ending, I still found it too depressing. I prefer a dreamy, romantic-comedy book. Story that sores up my heart & makes me dreamy in the end. I prefer Historical romances. However, if you are the kind of person who prefers sad, tear jerker, true-to-life story, then this is definitely the one for you. I didn't regret reading this one though, so..... Overall, it was a good book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daddy, November 24, 2005

This review is from: Daddy (Audio Cassette)
Another happy-ending Danielle Steele novel that involves Oliver, a successful advertising agent, his wife Sarah and their 3 children. After 20 years of marriage, Sarah decides she had enough of being a wife to a successful man and the mother of his children. She was smart and ambitious also. Without her husband knowing, she applies to Harvard and is accepted into their MBA program. When she tells her husband, he and their children are devastated. She decides to move out of their wealthy home in New York and travels to Cambridge where she then attends college. The story begins here and then tells how Oliver's and the children's lives change as a result of her decision. A heartwarming story that I recommend highly especially at holiday time.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Story of Courage and Comittments in Father Figurers, October 11, 2002
By

This review is from: Daddy (Paperback)
This book took a 360 degree turn on the image portrayed in the media today of men in all rolls of life. Contrary to today's' movies and advertisements, this book showed strong, intelligent, loving, caring and committed men in the father roll of their families.

There are a number of turns in the plot that cause the reader to have to keep guessing as to the outcome of the situations and the end of the book. I found myself getting so angry with Sarah for her actions and decisions she made which affected each family member so painfully. Her children did not ask to be brought into the world and did not deserve the decision she made.

The book is great as most of Ms. Steels' books are.

5.0 out of 5 stars How does she do it?, April 25, 2002
This review is from: Daddy (Paperback)
It's amazing again, how DS places herself & the reader in the shoes of a man. (Most of us readers of DS are women) It's great. This is a tear-jerker too. But it is one of those stories that when you are finished, you feel like you've really been somewhere, seen something, learned, experienced. Her books do that. She's a great writer!

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing story with fairy tale ending, June 9, 2007
This review is from: Daddy (Arabic Edition) (Paperback)
Oliver didn't quite put his foot down as his marriage crumbled with Sarah. He pretty much took it all in stride. But I guess he loved her enough to let her go. It just struck me as kinda odd. Life manages to drudge on for the remaining fragmented Watson family and its ups and downs threaten the balance of daily life. But Oliver carries on and is finally happy in the end. And enjoyable read for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read, August 22, 2006

This is one of those books that makes you say "See, everything turns out ok in the end". As most of Danielle's books do. This is a story of heartbreak, family disfunction, unconditional love and failure. But it is nice to see that in the end, the family does come together even if it is a bit different than it began. Good story and you really can relate no matter what your family life is like.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not just a tawdry romance, January 10, 2004

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Daddy (Paperback)
"Daddy" is about Oliver Watson who thinks he has everything. He has a great life with the quentissential American Dream: wife, kids, house, dog. That is, until his wife Sarah decides that she wants to go back to school...away from him and the kids.

Everything in Oliver's world starts to fall apart: his oldest son gets a girl pregnant and his mother with Alzheimer's is in an accident and dies.

Through watching his family cope with the obstacles in their lives and watching his father fall in love again, Oliver realizes that he too must move on with his life.

This was the first Danielle Steel novel that I read and I was impresses. It wasn't just a tawdry romance novel.

There was also a made-for-TV movie based on this book. It starred Patrick Duffy (Oliver), Linda Carter (Charlotte) and Kate Mulgrew (Sarah). Ben Affleck played the oldest son.
