Greg Wright had an epiphany one day when it came to his daughters: Don't screw up. A simple concept, but one that requires years to work on. So he began thinking about how he would be as successful of a father as he could be, which led him to start taking his daughters on a date. Because of this, he has developed a relationship with each of his daughters and has a better, truer understanding of who his girls are, what they fear, what they aspire to be, and that their father can be their go to guy, no matter what.
Being the father of two girls with a third child on the way, I can now understand and appreciate what I was being told years ago. Through the last nine years, especially during the last five, the wisdom of such an act began growing in my mind. I want my daughters to learn from my mistakes and have a level head, and Wright provides great insight and tools that can help fathers relate to their daughters. This is the kind of relationship every father should work towards having with each of his children.Read more ›
I really didn't know what to expect from this book, but was genuinely delighted. It made me laugh from the very first sentence and I thought "wow" here's a man who's not afraid to put it out there and just laugh at himself and his "manisms."
I think Greg Wright did a wonderful job creating this book. By using humor and an awful lot of common sense, this dad could really help out alot of men out there to finally begin to understand the women in their lives.
I would highly recommend this book to any dad raising daughters or just about to any man who wants to really know the woman in his life.
This book was provided to me by the good people at Booksneeze for my honest review.
This is a very practical, insightful book that teaches fathers how to relate to their daughters. He gives a glimpse into his family life complete with the rules and priorities that are important to him. Through these Daddy Dates, he shows his daughters how they should expect to be treated and respected. He starts dating his girls when they are rather young and grows with them as they hit the tween and teen years. Since he has a relationship with them, the conflicts that most parents encounter with their teens are solved with better communication and understanding.
I really appreciate the road map that Wright lays out not only for dates, but for the relationship that he is building with each of his children. He is honest, admitting when dates have gone very well and when they have totally fallen flat. He shows how building a bridge into the lives of his girls has paid off for him. There are so many lofty "how to" books on parenting, but this book is very down to earth. It doesn't talk only about what your parenting goals should be, but how to effectively reach them.
I would recommend this book to any parent of girls.
