"What the heck is a daddy date? What are you taking about?! I don't get it!" That pretty much sums up my initial impression the first time I learned what a daddy date was about nine years ago before my wife and I got married. Being one of three girls, daddy dates were regularly occurring events that made a huge impression on my wife and her sisters. Coming from a home of four boys, the concept of a daddy or mommy date was radical to me, and not being a parent myself nor having participated in such dates, it was difficult to grasp the benefits or the purpose behind them. Fast forward nine years and I am a proponent and participant of daddy dates.

Greg Wright had an epiphany one day when it came to his daughters: Don't screw up. A simple concept, but one that requires years to work on. So he began thinking about how he would be as successful of a father as he could be, which led him to start taking his daughters on a date. Because of this, he has developed a relationship with each of his daughters and has a better, truer understanding of who his girls are, what they fear, what they aspire to be, and that their father can be their go to guy, no matter what.

Being the father of two girls with a third child on the way, I can now understand and appreciate what I was being told years ago. Through the last nine years, especially during the last five, the wisdom of such an act began growing in my mind. I want my daughters to learn from my mistakes and have a level head, and Wright provides great insight and tools that can help fathers relate to their daughters. This is the kind of relationship every father should work towards having with each of his children.

Take a real dad, with a real passion for parenting and loving his daughters, and you have the basis for "daddy dates". This book takes the basic concept of dating and turns into one of the best tools that any man could have on his bookshelf. By really and genuinely focusing on his daughters and what their opinions, thoughts, and dreams are, as they go out together on different excursions, this dad learns what really makes them tick. By showing these young women that they matter the most in his life by creating these outings, gives them the basis for becoming very confident, self-assured, loving adults.

I really didn't know what to expect from this book, but was genuinely delighted. It made me laugh from the very first sentence and I thought "wow" here's a man who's not afraid to put it out there and just laugh at himself and his "manisms."

I think Greg Wright did a wonderful job creating this book. By using humor and an awful lot of common sense, this dad could really help out alot of men out there to finally begin to understand the women in their lives.

I would highly recommend this book to any dad raising daughters or just about to any man who wants to really know the woman in his life.

This book was provided to me by the good people at Booksneeze for my honest review.

I read this book on the airplane and wanted to share it with each man who walked the aisle of the cabin. It is a fantastic book for any guy who is or will be the father of a girl. Not only is it a simple "how-to" guide for men looking to understand and communicate with their little girls, but it's helpful for marriages too. I can't think of a better gift for Father's Day!

What a great book!!! Years ago, my husband and I were challened with the thought of how we would raise our three girls to love and honor God AND love and honor us. We know that rules without a relationship can lead to rebellion, but how do you lovingly teach rules and build a relationship?? It has been our quest through the past three years to raise girls who see their father as the head of their home and Christ as the head of their hearts. What a challenge and what a joy! Daddy Dates addresses these issues in fun-loving, memoir-style format. It's not James Dobson, but it is practical and fun, and it reminds dads that one of their most serious and most important responsibilites is to raise daughters who passionately love the Lord. I wish more men would step up to the task, but I'm thankful for our dads/husbands who are willing to rise to the challenge!

Greg Wright, the father of 4 daughters, woke up one day and decided that he needed a plan, a mission, to guide his relationships with his girls. The mission statement? "Don't screw up". He follows up on his mission statement with a more concrete plan to get to know each of his daughters. Get to know how they think, who their friends are, what their fears and ambitions are, etc. He accomplishes this by taking them out on Daddy Dates.

This is a very practical, insightful book that teaches fathers how to relate to their daughters. He gives a glimpse into his family life complete with the rules and priorities that are important to him. Through these Daddy Dates, he shows his daughters how they should expect to be treated and respected. He starts dating his girls when they are rather young and grows with them as they hit the tween and teen years. Since he has a relationship with them, the conflicts that most parents encounter with their teens are solved with better communication and understanding.

I really appreciate the road map that Wright lays out not only for dates, but for the relationship that he is building with each of his children. He is honest, admitting when dates have gone very well and when they have totally fallen flat. He shows how building a bridge into the lives of his girls has paid off for him. There are so many lofty "how to" books on parenting, but this book is very down to earth. It doesn't talk only about what your parenting goals should be, but how to effectively reach them.

I would recommend this book to any parent of girls.
