More About the Author

Linda Style was born and raised in Minnesota, where she spent many long, cold winters making up stories in her head. She attended the University of Minnesota, studying behavioral science, married and had a family. But the dream of writing persisted, and after moving to Arizona, she earned a degree in journalism from the Walter Cronkite School of Jouralism at Arizona State University. She's worked in many jobs from social services to magazine editor, and, now, with 14 novels under her belt, her books are sold worldwide and in many different languages. In addition to penning her novels of romance, adventure and intrigue, she also teaches novel writing at Bootcamp for Novelists Online. Since her first sale to Harlequin Enterprises in 1999, her novels have won several contests and awards, including the prestigious Daphne du Maurier Award. When not writing, or teaching, Linda indulges her passions for travel, photography, hiking in the Arizona mountains, and enjoying her family. 5.0 out of 5 stars UNFORGETTABLE CHARACTERS - COMPELLING SECOND-CHANCE STORY, March 9, 2001
By
Eve Paludan (Los Angeles, CA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Daddy in the House (Harlequin Superromance No. 977) (Paperback)
Unforgettable characters and a compelling second-chance story

Author Linda Style has done it again, (5 stars!) with an unforgettable cast of characters: a clever little girl who will tug at your heart long after the story is over; her mom, a beautiful and brilliant lawyer with a steely exterior and a tender heart; and her dad, a sexy ex-secret agent motivated by a fierce protectiveness and lots of empathy for both his ex-wife and little daughter.

It starts with a bump on the head on the school monkey bars. The bump results in believable amnesia for the little girl, who awakens with no recollection of her life. Love for their daughter thrusts both parents together again in their old house, as they look past their differences to struggle for equal ground and better communication in their parental relationship. They are determined to be a family, even if only temporarily, in the hopes that their little daughter will recover her memories and feel secure in a happy family setting.

There's steamy romance too, the kind that makes you believe that there is order in the universe, if only you can hurtle down the right path at breakneck speed, while simultaneously choosing your words and actions carefully. It's hard to undo the mistakes of relationships past, but these ex-spouses try to fix their marriage using a perfect blend of intelligence, communication, and passion. A great story on its own, but an added intriguing subplot -- DANGER! -- will really get your pulse racing as you read.

Some scary events alarm the parents, and it seems that danger begins to lurk more and more at every turn of the page. Not only must a sweet young girl overcome amnesia, her parents must also protect her from unknown and would-be assailants. With lots of potential enemies who would wish them harm, the story takes on a growing suspenseful edge that will keep you turning the pages, FAST!

I won't do a big spoiler here, but truly, I could not put down this surprising book. Due to Harlequin's "fluffy-slippers" title, I expected the story to be predictable, maybe a little sitcom-y. Not so! -- and super shame on me for thinking it it would be. So don't let the cliched title throw you...

"Daddy in the House" was engrossing and compelling, so much so, that I read this book in one sitting. The only other author who gets a "one sitting read" from me (these days) is Mary Higgins Clark. Linda Style's books are every bit as suspenseful, but definitely not as dark as Clark's, and that's what I like about them. (Don't worry, Linda Style is known for her happy endings -- It's just as satisfying to see how the characters get there, as to know this will be the final reward.)

As an added bonus, there is an insightful interview with Linda Style at the end of the book. The interview topic is writing and publishing. All romance writers and aspiring romance writers, I urge you not to miss the last few pages of this book!

A SUPER READ! Looking forward to reading more novels from this brilliant author. -- Eve Paludan, author of The Romance Writer's Pink Pages

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic second book!, April 2, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Daddy in the House (Harlequin Superromance No. 977) (Paperback)
Ms. Style is only getting better. Daddy in the House is her second book and is one I could not put down. The characters are very compelling and well drawn, and the climactic ending sneaks up on you. All in all, a lovely "stylish" book. I look forward to many more books by this wonderful new author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daddy in the House Review, June 5, 2007
This review is from: Daddy in the House (Harlequin Superromance No. 977) (Paperback)
"Who are you? I want daddy!" Little Hallie yelled at her mother who she no longer remembered. "Get away." What would you do if your own child you've spent many years with didn't remember you, but they did the one person who hasn't spent five minutes with them her whole life? With unforgettable characters and a story about second chances, author Linda Style has done it again, with an unforgettable cast of characters: a clever little girl who will tug at your heart long after the story is over; her mom, a lawyer whose working on a dangerous case with a tender heart; and her dad, a secret agent who is very protective of both his ex-wife and little daughter.

Logan Wakefield and Dana Marlowe are divorced parents of a little girl named Hallie. The divorced pair hasn't gotten along since the divorce and Logan is gone on business so much he doesn't know his own daughter anymore. One day Hallie gets in an accident, on the playground at school, and only seems to remember her father, not her mother at all. Since she's scared to death of her mother because she looks like a stranger, the dad has to move back in the house after all these years and be with his daughter and ex-wife. But soon after Dana and Logan fall for each other once again and debate if they can be a happy family once again without Hallie ever remembering her.

Daddy in the House has also been nominated and received many different kinds of awards, such as being the winner of the 2002 Daphne du Maurier Award of Excellence, being nominated by Affaire de Couer for the best long contemporary of the year and for being nominated for the Golden Quill Award.

The best part of the book, besides all of it, was when Logan and Dana start falling in love again Hallie gets mad because she doesn't know this woman. Or so she thinks. While Hallie keeps throwing anger at the pair Dana gets jealous because Hallie seems to know Logan and not her. This part keeps bringing emotion and might even make you tear up. This part of the book is brought out through many chapters in the book and it keeps your attention held the whole time.

Daddy in the House is for readers who like reading about love, the changes it brings, and what goes through a kids head during a divorce. It doesn't have much action for action lovers, and it would only hold your attention if you are prepared for the love and fight that comes along with the family and their time in need.

This book really held my attention from page to page- cover to cover. It was ALWAYS beyond hard for me to put it down. Just the way it has so many emotions floating around, from Hallie only wanting her dad, to if Dana and Logan want to be together or not, just made me fall in love with this more than amazing book. Personally, I would not change anything about the book, besides having to put it down when it was done, because it was just astonishing, heart-felt, and made you feel like you were in the book along with the characters. Anyone ready for a heart-catching excellent book, should read Daddy in the House for all it has to bring. It's definitely five stars and two thumbs up.
