5.0 out of 5 stars My Daddy Was A Railroad Man
I bought this cd after hearing a couple of train songs on the radio. I don't know a whole lot about folk songs or dobros or country music for that matter. What I do know is that if you like songs that tell a story; songs that remind us of when we didn't have hours of security checks; songs about when, if you had to leave quickly & quietly you could listen for a whistle...

The songs on this album are interesting and historic, and the liner notes are very helpful by giving the origin of the songs. For country-music fans, it is probably a great album. The editorial review refers to Ivy Creek Recordings as specializing in "...authentic old-time music..." Although the accompaniment on this CD is quite pleasant, it fails to give an authentic "railroad" or "train" mood. Some of the arrangements sound Hawaiian, probably due to the dobro instrument being used. I like my folk songs served up as folk songs, not oversweetened by the instrumentation or other means.
