I caught this movie accidentally on cable and fell in love immediately. The characters and interactions are colorful and entertaining with plenty of one-line humor as well as "inside jokes" that will keep you wanting to know more about the family as individuals and as a unit. 3.0 out of 5 stars Daddy's Dyin' Whose Got the Will?
I loved watching this movie with my grandmother growing up. I'd have sleepovers at my grandparents house and I'd always want to watch this film. The characters in this movie are entertaining and they will remind you of your own family in some way. I'm not sure why this movie is so unpopular, but if you caught it on TV or just came across this DVD online- buy it and...

I caught this movie accidentally on cable and fell in love immediately. The characters and interactions are colorful and entertaining with plenty of one-line humor as well as "inside jokes" that will keep you wanting to know more about the family as individuals and as a unit. From Beverly D'Angelo's (Evalita) provacative singing, Molly McClure's (Mama Wheelis) witty honesty, Judge Reinholds (Harmony) golden locks, all the way down to the dysfunctional relationship between Beau Bridges (Orvil) and Patrika Darbo (Marlene) I think you'll also find this to be one of the best comedy drama movies ever.

4.0 out of 5 stars Family Ties are Stronger than Anything, February 3, 2004

If you believe that a close family is important, then you will like this movie. All of the siblings in this movie come together in their childhood home because their father is dying. They all have their ups and downs, and there are many disagreements. Despite all of the sibling rivalries in the end their love for each other wins out. Anyone who watches this will be able to identify with a lot of the situations in this movie, which will make it that much more memorable. This is one movie that is worth getting

If you were raised in Texas, you will really be able to appreciate this film. And if you come from a large family, these characters will look awfully familiar. This is one of my favorite films.

4.0 out of 5 stars Little Film with Big Appeal, July 19, 2005
This review is from: Daddy's Dyin'... Who's Got the Will? (DVD)
I saw this little movie by accident in 1991 at the dollar theater. I thought I would be in for the most awful two hours of my life but I absolutely loved it.
Over and over, this film brought out the little things that happen when a big Texas family comes together; those things you can't put your finger on but know immediately when you see it.
Great performances from the whole cast--everyone nailed the often-mocked-but-hard-to-get-it-right Texas drawl.
So glad this finally came out on DVD. I'll watch it whenever I get homesick.

This is an extremely funny movie. The 3 southern sisters are very realistic southern characters. Beau Bridges and Beverly D'Angelo are particularly brilliant.

4.0 out of 5 stars More fun than a barrel of monkeys!, April 10, 2005

A good plot with loveable characters. The kitchen scene with "Harmony" Judge Reinhold & "Marlene" Patrika Darbo kept me in stiches for days!

5.0 out of 5 stars Del Shores at the beginning and one of his best, October 4, 2011
This review is from: Daddy's Dyin'... Who's Got the Will? (DVD)
Purchased this from Del Shores when he and Jason were in Cincinnati oh. When he was doing his stand up comedy Sordid confessions.

And in his other DVD My Sordid life he reveals he used his family for this play and movie and how some of them became the characters for sordid lives the movie and series.

these people are about as real as it can get I saw my family an this dvd and all I can say is funny oh my gosh funny. Southern fried humor and characters we all can relate to on some level.

get this one it is well worth it.

Many of you know Del Shores from his film & television series "Sordid Lives". Long before that was created he wrote many plays & screenplays including "Daddy's Dyin'...Who's Got the Will?". This film is a peek inside a rural Texas family gathering in love & greed. Wonderful cast, beautiful production. One of my all-time favorite films.

If you grew up in San Angelo, TX and found going to Lowake Steak House a real treat, then you will especially enjoy this hilarious Texas comedy. I laughed until my sides were hurting and tears were streaming down my face.
