Excellent for kids of deployed soldiers!,

This review is from: Daddy's in Iraq, but I Want him Back (Paperback)
I bought this book for a friend, who was having a hard time explaining to her three year-old son about his Daddy's deployment. I had seen this book online, when my own husband was deployed, but never bought it. I wish I had because I think my daugther would have benefitted from it.
I read this story to my daugther, before giving it to my friend. Her daddy had just gotten back from Iraq a few months earlier. She liked the story a lot and understood what the little boy in the story was going through. I think this story is good for ages three and up. My daugther is three and could understand it, but I think any younger and it would have been too much. Warning Moms: You will probably cry while reading this story!! It was so hard for me to read this, without bawling my eyes out. I tried to hide my tears, for my daugther's sake, but it was really touching...especially if you have a husband deployed over there. Great book! Would recommend it to anyone!

Very helpful,
This review is from: Daddy's in Iraq, but I Want him Back (Paperback)
Bought this for my 4 and 2 year olds, and it's the best deployment book we've read so far. They loved it and were able to identify with a lot in this book, despite the fact that there were some differences in our situation. They loved that it was written from a little boy's perspective, and that his picture is included at the end of the book. I am recommending this book to all my military friends with kids struggling with deployments, even if Daddy's somewhere other than Iraq. The basic identification of the emotional issues with Daddy's being gone outweighs the situational differences.

Wonderfuly written. Bought this book to help my children understand where "Daddy" is and we are not the only ones who have to go through deployments. Our children are able to relate to the main character and before long their Daddy will be back just like his. Thank you for a great book.

Too Sad,

Granted, the book does validate a lot of feelings kids feel when dad deploys, but boy...it's a downer! My kids and I were crying by the end of the book. Next time I'll look for something cheerier that looks forward to the positives, instead of focusing on the negatives.

I purchased this book for my three year old grandson, who's daddy is in Iraq. The similarities, in this book, to his life right now are remarkable. Not only is his daddy in Iraq, but he also has a little brother. We were able to change the names in the book to become his story. The kid art is awesome and he relates to it well. He now sleeps with this book as well as the pictures of his daddy.

If you have a child who's parent is in Iraq, get this book. It's a cute little book that helps the child learn the process; like Daddy leaves, calls and writes, we do fun things while he's gone, we send packages, he misses some stuff, but then he comes HOME!!! It was extremely age appropriate for my 4 year old, but I cried the first couple of times I read it to her!!!

My 4 yr. old grandson was having a hard time with daddy deploying. Both my son and grandson loved this book and my son was able to use some of the content to talk about why he was going to Iraq. I very highly recommend this book. It's well worth the money.

As the wife of a soldier in Iraq, I had to buy this book even though my child is only a few months old. I still read it to him once a week and cry every time. It is written so a young child can understand it. Now we need an Afghanistan version.

My 2.5 year old LOVES this book. Of the 5 deployment books we purchased, it's one of the better ones for preschoolers. It explains realistic emotions with out over dramatizing (IE: mom getting cranky, being sad an angry because daddy's gone etc!!). It also shows teh fun things that do go on while the parent is gone. It's a great book for the preschooler!!
