5.0 out of 5 stars Awsome book
I received Bedeviled on Friday and by Saturday night I finished reading it. It was exciting, very well written and so entertaining.
Angel seems so real, and the story is not your typical tween book with a predictable ending. I'd recommend it to any tween looking for a fun well written and exciting book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute, if insubstantial
Bedeviled / 978-0-448-45111-4

The set-up for this novel is quite cute: main character Angel is going to have a tough enough time in eight grade without having to deal with the realization that her father is the literal devil, and having her mom trying to rectify the situation with her New Age philosophies and healing stones isn't going to help matters any...

5.0 out of 5 stars Bedeviled - Daddy's Little Angel is a Great Read, September 6, 2009

Author Shani Petroff just might be the next JK Rowling. Have not heard much of her prior to reading this book but I have a feeling we will be hearing a lot about her down the road. She managed to capture the voice of a 13-year old so believably that I thought that is who was speaking to me as I turned the pages of the book. It brought back a lot of memories of my school days. What I liked most is that the story was not only engaging (could not wait to see what would happen) but we all learned a valuable lesson of frienship and loyalty. I was reading it to make sure that it was age-appropriate and was pleased to see that it is written in a wholesome way. I would let my kids read it and I am not embarrassed to say that I cannot wait for the next installment to come out...I already know that I will be purchasing a few more books to give out as gifts...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book series, January 11, 2011
This review is from: Daddy's Little Angel (Bedeviled) (Paperback)
I bought the Bedeviled series for my 9 year old for Christmas. She's already part way through the second one. She's not a huge fan of reading, but she loves these books. I hope there are more to come.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute, if insubstantial, July 3, 2010
This review is from: Daddy's Little Angel (Bedeviled) (Paperback)
Bedeviled / 978-0-448-45111-4

The set-up for this novel is quite cute: main character Angel is going to have a tough enough time in eight grade without having to deal with the realization that her father is the literal devil, and having her mom trying to rectify the situation with her New Age philosophies and healing stones isn't going to help matters any.

For the most part, this novel delivers on the cute premise - the dialogue and characters are well-written, and the overall feel of eight grade middle school (and the temptations and dangers therein) is well captured. For a 200+ page novel, though, the story is surprisingly brief - at 45 chapters, that's a lot of white space and page breaks - and veteran readers will probably rip through this novel in a matter of hours.

And after a promising beginning with such a delicious premise, the actual conflict of the novel simmers back down into your standard romance-crushing and popularity wars (with a blonde Libby / Alpha Queen, of course), with the supernatural elements being largely confined to Lou (i.e., Lucifer) popping in from time to time on the faces of volleyballs, causing Angel to hiss at him and getting her strange looks from her classmates - this is repeated something like seven times, and after awhile it loses its sting as a literary device.

Younger readers may enjoy reading about Angel's adventures in middle school, but older readers may be a little off-put by the realization that most of Angel's problems are predictably of her own making - at least until the end when she grows up a little and learns the value of clear communication - but overall this is a cute novel and a pleasant afternoon read. It will be interesting to see where the author goes from here and whether the interesting premise gets a little more time devoted to it in the next books rather than serve as a literary device behind the usual middle school angst plots.

5.0 out of 5 stars My daughter loved it, May 15, 2010
This review is from: Daddy's Little Angel (Bedeviled) (Paperback)
Take this review for what it's worth, since I have not read the book, but my 12 year old daughter bought the book and started reading it at 10:00 at night and wouldn't go to sleep until she was done.

4.0 out of 5 stars Supernatural Fun, September 14, 2009
This review is from: Daddy's Little Angel (Bedeviled) (Paperback)
Petroff has created a fun story in Bedeviled. The reader is entertained not only by the dynamic between Angel and her father (Lou Cipher, get it....Lucifer, haha) but is also treated to light-hearted lessons on morality, how individual decisions not only affect our own lives but also of those around us, and finally about acceptance. Despite the unrealistic circumstances, ie: the devil rises to claim his sweet awkward daughter, the story does view the above mentioned themes in a realistic light. Angel is a typical girl running head long into teendom where the biggest concerns she's face with are popularity and boys. She's typically spiteful, characteristically awkward in social and public situations and most of all unforgiving when she thinks its warranted. Anything more or less than that would have made the story shift more towards the implausible.

The story is a quick and easy read of complex issues today's teens may encounter in real life. While understandably targeted towards the middle grade and young adult reader it is still enjoyable for adults as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daddy's Little Angel (Bedeviled), August 25, 2009
This review is from: Daddy's Little Angel (Bedeviled) (Paperback)
My wife started the book on Saturday afternoon and finished it by Saturday night. It was so engaging, that she preferred finishing the book to watching the movie we had rented.
You don't have to be a pre-teen or teenager to enjoy this book.
I started the book tonight and hope to finish it by tomorrow.
This is a great read! Everyone should tell their family and friends to purchase a copy for themselves.
