I remember when I bought the soundtrack for Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Tyler Perry's first movie. I was stunned. This soundtrack wasn't like the others; it actually had new songs produced and recorded specifically for the occasion. Not foolish radio hits that were outplayed months before its release or throw out tracks from the flavor-of-the-month's last album. Sure,...

4.0 out of 5 stars Daddy's Little Girl's Soundtrack, January 18, 2007
This review is from: Daddy's Little Girls (Audio CD)
The soundtrack for the upcoming film "Daddy's Little Girl's" (Febuary 2007) is a solid release which features appearances from a number of established singers: Anthony Hamilton, Jaheim, Musiq Soulchild, R Kelly, Tamika Scott, Adrian Hood, Whitney Houston, Cissy Houston, Dionne Warwick, Yolanda Adams, Brian Mcknight, Beyonce, Governor, Charles Moore. The album's opening track is the heartfelt "Struggle No More" (The Main Event) is an excellent collaboration between Anthony Hamiltion, Jaheim and Musiq Soulchild. I am a fan of all three singers, and am impressed by this substantial contribution which is about overcoming financial struggle, and living a better life - one of the themes of the upcoming film. This release also marks the return of Whitney Houston who delivers "Family First" a collaboration with her Mom Cissy Houston, cousin Dionne Warwick, daughter Kristina & the family. Beyonce provides a tribute to her pops on the smooth "Daddy", while gospel singer Yolande Adams "Step Aside" is about faith and god. Anthony Hamilton original "Struggle No More" is strong cut like the remix. I have not heard of Governor before (an artist signed to T.I.'s Grand Hustle Label) but was impressed with the powerful "Blood, Sweat & Tears". Charles Moore cover's Sam Cooke's a "A Change Is Gonna Come" well. "Daddy's Little Girls" soundtrack is a release worth checking out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome back Whitney!, January 17, 2007
This review is from: Daddy's Little Girls (Audio CD)
Tyler Perry was wise to get Whitney to make an appearance on this movie soundtrack CD. The track, "Family First" clearly proves that Miss Houston can still hold a tune. She teams with her mother, Cissy Houston and veteran Pop/Soul diva, Dionne Warwick on what should be a single release from this project. It would be great if Houston chose a family theme for her upcoming CD to be released later this year.
Other bright spots on the CD are "Brown Eyed Blues" sung by Adrian Hood,
"Struggle No More" with Anthony Hamilton, Jaheim and Musiq Soulchild and "Daddy" sung by Beyonce. Yolanda Adams and Brian McKnight also lend their pipes to this sentimental but brief project.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soulful Soundtrack, February 8, 2007
This review is from: Daddy's Little Girls (Audio CD)
If you are looking for a truly soulful R&B album you will enjoy the Daddy's Little Girl Soundtrack. The soundtrack opens up with the strong song "Struggle No More [Main Event]," which features three powerhouse male R&B vocalist-Anthony Hamilton, Jaheim and Musiq Soulchild. The song "Struggle No More," is also featured on the soundtrack with Anthony performing solo. One of the most anticipated songs on the album is the song "Family First." This is the first new music from Whitney Houston in a really long time. She is joined on the track by family members Cissy Houston, Dionne Warwick and other members of her clan. Beyonce offers up a slow joint with "Daddy." This song is about a woman's affection for her father and she sings about wanting her unborn child to be like her father.

The Daddy's Little Girl's soundtrack is one for the grown ups. There aren't a lot of hip-hop beats and featured rappers. It's a soulful R&B soundtrack. Other artists featured on the soundtrack include R. Kelly, Tamika Scott, Yolanda Adamns, Governor, Charles Moore, Brian McKnight, and Adrian Hood.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars, March 6, 2007

I remember when I bought the soundtrack for Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Tyler Perry's first movie. I was stunned. This soundtrack wasn't like the others; it actually had new songs produced and recorded specifically for the occasion. Not foolish radio hits that were outplayed months before its release or throw out tracks from the flavor-of-the-month's last album. Sure, there were some tracks that didn't catch my attention as much on that soundtrack, but the ones that I loved completely made up for it. Alas, upon their release I have purchased the soundtracks to Madea's Family Reunion and now Daddy's Little Girls.

Same case here. There are some songs that I really could go on without playing again (I really am not interested in hearing another carbon copy of "A Change Is Gonna Come...), but there are a handful of gems on here that make up for it.

The opening track, "Struggle No More (The Main Event)" a collaboration between Anthony Hamilton, Musiq Soulchild and Jaheim, is amazing. When I first heard the song on BET, I knew I had to have it. Beyonce's addition, "Daddy," was already included as a hidden track on her debut, but it definitely deserves to be here. (Especially because it fits the theme). It is a beautifully personal ode to her father - and all fathers -who take responsibility and raise their children well. I enjoyed Yolanda Adams' new song. Any song by her is appreciated by me. But my absolute favorite track on here is "Family First" by Whitney Houston, Cissy Houston, Dionne Warwick and the rest of the family. What a beautiful song! When there is no one else around during hard times, you can always run to your family. (Whitney is back, people!) This song alone was worth the purchase to me.

Not that the other songs weren't good, they just didn't capture me as much as the highlights. Some of them are a little bland and generic and I really found R. Kelly's song boring and irrelevant to the movie/ soundtrack. Either way, this, and all of the other Tyler Perry soundtracks, are worth a buy and a listen.

The song sing by Lavon Davis "Silly games Blues" is missing from the soundtrack. Every song played in the movie should be on the soundtrack, I'm very disappointed. This is the song played in the scene where he takes her out for her birthday at juke club.

How else do you describe someone who has his hand on the pulse of both the music and film industry? "Struggle No More." Nothing else to be said about it. Two of my favorite male vocals, Anthony Hamilton and Jaheim together express what many of us are going through. I've been playing this CD nonstop for 4 days and look forward to the film. All of the other artists on this project have really done a great job! Great work Mr. Perry.
