Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreS - This book, written and illustrated by the daughter of Dorothy Kunhardt [Pat the Bunny (Random, 1990)], succeeds in re-creating the world of Paul and Judy for a new generation of toddlers. Here, the siblings wonder why Daddy's face is so scratchy every morning. "Is Mummy's face scratchy? Are Paul's and Judy's faces scratchy? No! Because men grow beards. Women and children do not." With the mystery solved, the children watch their father shave and then muse about animals that have beards. At the end of the day, they are sent off to sleep with Daddy's scratchy goodnight kiss. The simple and comforting text will appeal to the youngest listeners. Done in the same style as Pat the Bunny, the artwork is rendered in a nostalgic pastel palette. Unfortunately, this book does not contain a tactile element, and those hoping to feel "Daddy's scratchy face" will be disappointed. However, even without the interactive feature, Pat the Bunny fans will welcome this new offering to share with their favorite little ones. - Donna Cardon, Provo City Library, UT

5.0 out of 5 stars Kids love this book!!, May 21, 2009
This review is from: Daddy's Scratchy Face (Bunny's Playdate) (Hardcover)
I think the previous reader confused this book w/ pat the bunny which has all the touch and feel things she described. This is not touch and feel, but the story is so cute and "the itchy scratchy face" is catchy. This is my son's absolute favorite book. It is a classic they will not forget. It really is a must have for any child.
