Book Description

March 1, 2002
This Parent-to-English guidebook is a hilarious primer on understanding the true meaning of parental communication.

Those who suspect that their fathers took closely guarded secret courses instructing them on "the significance of enigmatic utterances" won't be surprised to learn there are indeed clandestine languages for Dads. And here is the book that deciphers them.

Finally, Dad's ambiguous responses like "Go ask your mother," cryptic commands such as "Don't make me pull this car over," and the puzzling question, "Do you think I'm made of money?" are explained in comic detail in this handy reference. Interpreted for the new century, each one is translated with tongue-in-cheek humor and insight.

4.0 out of 5 stars A series worth every funny moment, July 3, 2005
This review is from: Dadisms What He Says And What He Really Means (Hardcover)
If you think you're the only person whose dad said "Not under this roof, you're not" or "You're not going out in THAT!" then this series is going to broaden your horizons! Hilarious and pitch-perfect, it captures fathers' "wisdom" (if you can call it that) in true form. As a father myself, I cringe to realize I actually have said about half this stuff! Hamilton has created a marvelous little entertainment that perfect for families where dad has often put into words the kind of man he really is! Buy it for the dad in your life, and read it together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! I thought only my dad said these things..., June 18, 2004

With father's Day just around the corner, I have been keeping an eye out for something for my pop. I found the funniest book called, "Dad-isms." It was great reading through it and hearing all the things that used to come out of my own dad's mouth. The book tells you of a phrase you may have heard from your own, but what he really meant by the statement. One of my favorites was a phrase that went something like, "turn that racket down in there." But what he really meant was, "turn down your music, I can't hear the TV." And what about this warning, "Don't you ever let me catch you doing that again!" That simply meant, "you can do it, I just don't want to find out about it." It's hilarious.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do I Really Sound Like That?!, April 16, 2007
This review is from: Dadisms What He Says And What He Really Means (Hardcover)
Reading this little book made me realize that I have become more of my father than I ever thought possible. All of the usual Dadisms are in the book...and if you don't think you're using them, try reading the book. This would make a great gift for Father's Day...funny and entertaining, but a little thought provoking at the same time.
