A Must for Fathers and GrandFathers and Fathers to be!!!,
By
This review is from: Dad's Bible: The Father's Plan (Imitation Leather)
The Bible is the New Century Version which some would say the greatest story ever told! It is broken up in pieces so you understand what you will be reading! With notes of what a father should be, by Robert Wolgemuth through out every situation, it is indeed a very explanatory Bible!
The pages through out each story are made to look like an older book, but what it actually is, is it looks like the Gold edges bleed through out into each page! Very easy to use, pages flow in a way that you don't want to put it down! I have 2 of these Bibles, so I always have one at 2 of the places I live! Get the Green Leather Bond Edition! You will not be sorry!

Nice gift for Father's Day,
By Andrew Mitchell (Rochester, NY, US) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dad's Bible: The Father's Plan (Hardcover)
With Father's Day just a little over a week away, this is the perfect time to consider the Dad's Bible, New Century Version, with study notes by Robert Wolgemuth.
Although I was not especialy impressed with the NCV translation-it was simple to understand but lacked the flow and poetry of some other English language Bibles-Dr. Wolgemuth's comments helped me understand the Bible in a fresh way. For instance, in his introduction to the book of Genesis, Dr. Wolgemuth writes, "[A]lthough this may be hard to comprehend, you're a patriarch, too. Many years from now, your name will be familiar to a myriad of offspring. They'll remember your gifts and your flaws, your successes and your failures. This is amazing...and it's true." This Bible includes notes sorted into the following categories: walking in authority; Godly character-thoughts based upon the fruit of the Spirit; passing it on-how to share your faith with your children; dads in the Bible; building your children; insights-how to apply the Bible to home and work; Q&A; and a topical index. It is distracting that these notes don't always appear on the same pages as the passage upon which they are based. However, they helped me apply what I read in the Bible to my role as a father to my children. This book is a great gift for the special dad in your life. Just don't plan to use it as a daily use or study Bible. Full disclosure: I received a free copy of this Bible from Thomas Nelson Publishers in exchange for an unbiased review.

The Fathers Plan!,
By
This review is from: Dad's Bible: The Father's Plan (Hardcover)
The Fathers Plan is a great book! It's very educational and after reading this you really start to grasp things a little more in detail. The translation of the book I wasn't impressed so much. However, there were many parts that spoke out to me about sons and daughters. It doesn't really interrupt the book at all. Which I was surprised how the Author had put in the book. I can really relate in the aspect. After reading this book I gave it to my father as a gift. Not only did I enjoy reading this book but he did as well and so far has loved all the messages that it gives. I would highly recommend this book especially those who are looking for a good father's day gift or a gift to a father for a birthday or any holiday.

Good for new dads who are also new believers,
This review is from: Dad's Bible: The Father's Plan (Hardcover)
The Dad's Bible (New Century Version) by Robert Wolgemuth is a newly released specialty Bible that is intended for Dads. It includes several features that are unique to Fathers, such as: articles on a Dad's authority, articles teaching about godly character, articles about the faith of the next generation, a look at other Dads throughout the Bible, articles about nurturing your children spiritually, articles answering the practicalities for raising children, question and answer section as well as a topical index and notes pages in the back.
The features seem to be well thought out and helpful for a new Dad or a Dad-to-be. I can imagine how helpful these articles would be for someone new to parenting and needing a Biblical perspective on all the ups and downs of raising a child. The version of this Bible, New Century Version, is not preferred by many. This version is just okay. A commitment to the Word requires reading it every day, soaking it up and meditating on it, and with that kind of commitment, there should be great delight in the translation that you choose. After reading through several translations and researching the ones closest to the original language, we have settled on the English Standard Version, our favorite for everyday reading. However, the New Century Version does seem to be a very readable version for the new believer or for the new Dad who hasn't the mental capacity to think much after being awake with his newborn all night. I get that. All in all, the recommendation for this particular Bible would be for new Dads and Dads-to-be who are also new believers and don't have much foundation in the Word to begin with. This would be altogether helpful for them to have some guidance and wisdom through the articles and especially as it directs him toward the truth of the scriptures.

Another tool in your "Im a Dad" toolbelt,
By David Kenney (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dad's Bible: The Father's Plan (Hardcover)
First let me just say, I have not read this entire book. Because when I normally write a review of a book, it's one I have actually finished, but since it's the bible - I think I can slide on this one. Second this bible only has one commentator, author Robert Wolgemuth! Yes, THE Robert Wolgemuth! Yea, I don't know him either, I looked him up on Amazon and apparently he has written a lot of "Daddy" esque books. (She calls me Daddy, Men of the Bible, The Father's Plan, Father's of the Bible) etc. I am normally used to bibles that have a veritable myriad of commentators and people with PHD in their names, but again... letting it slide.
First of all this bible is the NCV (New Century Version) which if you don't know is the translation advertised as a "third grade reading level" which is also the standard used by the editors of World Book Encyclopedia to determine vocabulary. Back in 1978 this translation was originally the "easy to read" version for the deaf. But don't let it's simplicity fool you, the editors of the NCV wanted this version to be faithful to the original texts as much as possible so a team from the World Bible Translation Center and fifty additional, highly qualified and experienced Bible scholars and translators were given the task. This is what John 3 looks like in the NCV 16 "God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son so that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but have eternal life. 17 God did not send his Son into the world to judge the world guilty, but to save the world through him.18 People who believe in God's Son are not judged guilty. Those who do not believe have already been judged guilty, because they have not believed in God's one and only Son.19 They are judged by this fact: The Light has come into the world, but they did not want light. They wanted darkness, because they were doing evil things.20 All who do evil hate the light and will not come to the light, because it will show all the evil things they do. 21 But those who follow the true way come to the light, and it shows that the things they do were done through God." Obviously this book makes a good "gift bible" to those Dads in your life - it seems the obvious choice. But I think any Dad could actually pick this up for themselves, especially those who want to try to be a Godly father for their children. The notes in this book (a lot of which I am sure are taken from the author's Dad books?) are full of useful tools: ' Introductions to each book ' What is authority and how it applies to you as a Dad ' How to share your faith with your kids ' Biblical fatherly models ' Building character in your children ' And some helpful answers to questions your kids might ask. Here are the author's insights from the abovementioned John 3 passage: "Eavesdropping on the conversation at Nicodemus' covert, nocturnal visit with Jesus provides us with one of the most succinct summaries of Jesus' mission on earth. He was here to shine the light of God's love on the world and to find and to save people like you and me who were lost. Christ's "light" works. His life was like a flashlight with fresh batteries being turned on in a darkened room. While the brilliance brings clarity, it also brings comfort and confidence. You just tiptoed tentatively through the shadowy room, now you stride along with the light in your hands. Jesus brought the light. Walk with strength; and show your kids the light." And I know this is supposed to be a "book review" but beyond the translation and the editor what else is there to comment on? Unless you want my theological opinion of the entire text of scripture? Do you? Nah, didn't think so. But one last thing from a Dad. I know I said earlier that this would make a great "gift" bible for a Dad, but let me clarify. I think if you are old enough to buy your Dad a gift with your own money, get him something else. You obviously were raised well and you obviously feel your Dad did an ok job - so go buy your Dad a classic corvette or a Playstation 3. But I think this bible would make a cool gift for a new Dad; especially from a wife who just found out she was pregnant. This bible seems to be more targeted to the Dads who still have kids in the house and to the men who are concerned about the influence they still have. This bible can be a valuable tool in the effort to raise a family. Listen to one more quote from the author... "God never intended for you and me to do our jobs as dads all by ourselves. Believe it or not, he has surrounded us with faithful sidekicks and partners. Certainly, our wives can share in carrying the load. Youth ministers, extended family, neighbors . . . many of these people are only a phone call away from helping with the daunting task of effective fathering... You are not the Lone Ranger. You cannot do your job as a dad all alone. You aren't even supposed to try. Just remember that even the Lone Ranger wasn't a lone ranger." Dads, this bible can be your Tonto

A Good Tool,
This review is from: Dad's Bible: The Father's Plan (Hardcover)
I continue to be very glad, and blessed to be a part of the Book Sneeze blogger review team with Thomas Nelson Publishing. The biggest challenge I am having in my life as a dad is managing to find time to read the books...I am working hard to get better at this. It will just take me a bit but in the end the pay-off will be great.
The Dad's Bible-The Father's Plan, with notes by Robert Wolgemuth, is a great gift for fathers, fathers-to-be, and father figures of any age. The Dad's Bible is filled with challenging and helpful information designed to encourage and uplift fathers whose lives will be a priceless legacy for generations to come. Whether as a personal purchase, a Father's Day gift, or "just because," Dad's Bible is sure to draw the reader into quality personal time with our Heavenly Father. I think they will find that the notes will offer many tools to help guide families in worship, have meaningful discussions with your son's and daughter's and offer resources to help disciple others. The only qualm I have with this Bible is that it is only in the New Century Version Translation of the Bible. I personally think that Thomas Nelson would do well to offer this Bible, and it's resources in other translations like the King James Version. I look forward to using this tool as I lead my family in worship and in discipling my family. Go The Distance - Make a difference in your lifetime,
This review is from: Dad's Bible: The Father's Plan (Hardcover)
The Bible is relevant to people in all walks of life, and this is a great Bible for dads. The Sports Spectrum Training Table devotion of April 4, 2011 by Ryan Dinunzio illustrates what The Bible is all about. The devotion noted above discussed a hypothetical situation where a coach is given a playbook that is a road map to victory. To quote from the Training Table devotional noted above: "...a man walks up, hands you a playbook and says `Everything you need to go all the way is right here. This guarantees you victory. I am not saying it will always be easy, but there are plays in here for every situation; you may not always understand or even agree with everything. But trust it.' Two questions: Do you take it? Do you use it?...If you took it, would you use it? I would. It guarantees victory just by doing what it says. Just like that situation, God has provided you the playbook that guarantees victory, the Bible...Do you rely on it?...God has given you the playbook to life - follow it, immerse yourself in it, and read it."

Dad's Bible,
This review is from: Dad's Bible: The Father's Plan (Hardcover)
I signed up to receive this Bible over a year ago when my wife and I were still expecting our first child. I was excited to review a "Dad's Bible" because I was soon to be a Dad for the first time. Unfortunately it didn't live up to my expectations.
I really wanted to like this Bible. However, its taken over a year for me to review this Bible for a reason. Frankly it was just not a Devotional Bible that I could use on a regular basis. This Bible uses the New Century Version (NCV). I had never used the NCV much prior to obtaining this Bible and frankly I'm not impressed. The NCV is a revision of the International Children's Bible and the language seems simplistic and choppy to me. The devotionals and notes added throughout the Dad's Bible were decent but weren't something I found all that helpful. I did like the overall design of the pages, but I'm not fond of hardback Bible's Here's the bottom line: the Dad's Bible is a novelty/gift Bible that will be given as gifts to thousands of dad's on Father's Day but frankly it's probably not a Bible that will get used by many of those father's on a regular basis. So, if you're looking for something other than a tie to give go ahead and buy it. If you want one yourself you'll soon find numbers of these showing up at your local thrift store. ** out of ***** Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher through the [...] book review bloggers program. My father is a retired Baptist minister, and I bought this for him for his birthday (which is actually today, 4/4) - He is always so hard to shop for, and I thought he might like a new devotional, so I got this one and another for him. Because of distance, I couldn't see him open it, but my mother said it brought tears to his eyes, and he loves it!
