Good for experienced parents too!,

This is a great book. It's funny, thoughtful, true to life and captures a wide range of experience which is often not the case in pregnancy books. The author clearly talked to tons of people and brought it together in a way that is a good read for many. My husband and I have thoroughly enjoyed this book even as second time parents-to-be. It's a great gift too!

I received a copy of dad's pregnant too a few days ago to give to my niece and her husband who are expecting their first child. I flipped through the book (excellent index) and was amused and amazed by the wealth of useful, informative and entertaining information. I have ordered three more books for colleagues - it's the perfect non-traditional pregnancy gift.

I loved this book. I got this great book as a gift and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was really funny and informative. My husband who usually doesn't have the patience to sit down and read actually read whole chapters at a time. A friend of mine was over and started reading it since it was sitting on our coffee table and liked it so much that I gave it to her and I am buying myself another one.

I enjoyed this book a lot. There's a lot of good info for expectant dads. But I feel like it really fell short of being a book for ALL dads and is really a book for dads who work who have partners who do not or will not once the baby is born.
While having the anecdotal stories from folks was nice, too often these stories fell into re-asserting the author's opinions/positions. For instance, in the section about whether to watch the baby come out or not, there were plenty of folks saying to watch but few (if any) saying not to. Guess which one the author preferred? Also, the book was almost completely centered around working fathers who have partners who will no longer be working. Even in the few and brief mentions of women working, there was nothing about fathers who do not have a job at all and who are the primary care-givers. When the "stay at home" dad was finally introduced at the end of the book, it was a dad who also works from home part time. It seemed like the author had little concept of a father who does not have ANY job aside from his kid(s) -- or if he does, this father was absent from this book. What the author DID include was an entire section on fathers who travel a lot for work because -- guess what -- the author travels at lot for work. This was a pretty enjoyable book, and it did have a lot of good information. But I couldn't shake the feeling that the author wrote it for himself and fathers like him at the exclusion of others. There was also no mention of adoption, same-sex couples, religious difficulties during pregnancy and childbirth, and the author constantly hawks his website, which is deserted. I don't mean to sound harsh, but it could have been a much better book and probably will be in future editions.

My husband wanted a "guys" book when we were going thru our first pregnancy. He got a few at the store (the expecting series, week by week, etc) and was appauled at how condescending they were. We took them back and ordered "Dad's Pregnant Too"...he loved it! It was very helpful, write by a guy for guys, and was an easy / funny read. He liked how it was broken up and he could easily reference different topics (like when we got back from the dr or class). He even dog-earred pages in it.
We highly recommend this book to all soon-to-be dads!

My husband would often laugh and then read entire passages out loud in bed, much to my chagrin, but it did a great job of explaining it from a guy's point of view. He got nothing out of the 8+ pregnancy books I had around the house, but this answered all his questions with humor.

Well when I found out I was pregnant, I went and bought like 4 books. Well my boyfriend was always asking me questions and wanted to know whats going on with the baby(this is his first as well).I came across this book and skimmed through it and bought it for him. He has been reading it and he really likes it. He said he loves the little short stories from other men and the book is written from a man's point of view so I guess that what keeps his attention.I love that he is involved in this pregnancy with me and we can have a conversations and he shares information with me and is more understanding and compassionate towards me now.Ladies, grab this book for your partner

This is the perfect book for the first time father. (My wife is pregnant with our first child!) It covers so many aspects of pregnancy a first time father needs to understand while the real life stories make for a very entertaining read. Additionally, the book explains how husbands can be supportive for their wives
throughout pregnancy. These tips will definitely make the nine months easier on both the expecting father and mother!

An author who clearly adores pregnancy and fatherhood,
This review is from: Dad's Pregnant Too: Expectant fathers, expectant mothers, new dads and new moms share advice, tips and stories about all the surprises, questions and joys ahead... (Paperback)
I purchased this book for my husband as a father's day gift as a new father to be. It was the perfect gift and we've enjoyed reading the book together. While the author is clearly respectful of women and the enormity of what they are going through, he maintains a sense of humor about the male perspective. My husband is enjoying reading a pregnancy book written by a male and I find it fascinating to hear what a man finds important to say to another man on this topic.
We appreciate the tone of the book and the author's clear love for his wife and her own journeys through pregnancies. We would definitely recommend this book to friends and other new parents to be. It is helpful to have a thoughtful book on pregnancy written for men especially to add to our small library of essential pregnancy books. |
