Unexpected Joy,
By "atlanta_gal" (Atlanta, GA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dad's Tweed Coat (Hardcover)
Jim's gentle, but funny, personality shines through every page. Best of all, Jim has a fresh and unusual way of perceiving the world. He can find comfort, joy, and meaning in the smallest aspects of everyday life. When I finished reading, I felt uplifted, comforted, and enriched by a new sense of how to see the meaning of life!

A joyful honoring of family-of parenting and being parented.,

This review is from: Dad's Tweed Coat (Hardcover)
Jim Reed has given us 48 essays on his life in AL with emphasis on his father but equally as important are his insights into his own fathering. This is a treasure. I recommend it to all readers who want to have fun while ending up feeling good about themselves and each other. Jim connects us.

A wonderful heartwarming book,

In this high tech age, it is so easy to forget the really important things in life. Jim Reed's observations are heartwarming, nostalgic and sometimes hilarious. Reed has the ablitity to take the reader out of the humdrum of everyday life and transport him or her to a more peaceful time. His choice of words actually makes the reader he or she is actually there. It is truly a rare and wonderful gift to be able to give meaning to the most simple things in our world, but Jim Reed has it. There is no doubt that it belongs in every home. This review is from: Dad's Tweed Coat (Hardcover)
Robbie Willmarth, Chicago radio commentator, says, "I couldn't put it down...a small joyful compact book packed full of fun, witticisms, homages...wonderful insight into human nature. I believe you'll feel a little bit better about yourself and your world after reading 'Dad's Tweed Coat'."

The book is loving embrace from someone elses memories.,

This review is from: Dad's Tweed Coat (Hardcover)
It's a small book, 5 1/2" by 7 1/4". It's a thin book 3/4's of an inch. This means it's portable and easy on your pockets if you choose to carry it with you. If you do choose to stretch your coat pocket, place it near your heart, it will warm and calm you. Reed's book of fond memories, brings you to a nicer and calmer time when people had the time and inclination to say " how do" and mean it. We are all eventually memories and Jim is a very rich man if wealth is determined by the richness that such an outlook on life can bring one. I am very jealous of his childhood and his father's tweed coat. The narrative is cream rich in voice. When traveling in Reed's time machine a Southern story teller's words have the texture of evapoated milk poured through an old brassiere. Go to a quiet place, a secret place and enjoy a time that has come and gone but one that you can always visit when you wrap yourself in Jim Reed's father's tweed coat,

" THIS BOOK WILL SOLVE THE RAIN FOREST PREDICAMENT.",
By
This review is from: Dad's Tweed Coat (Hardcover)
Faye Burgess of Birmingham, Alabama, just read DAD'S TWEED COAT and emailed this message to author Jim Reed: "I can only say that if indeed 'this small book evaporates into the ozone layer' then the ozone layer will only be improved by its addition and perhaps you will have solved the rain forest predicament once and for all...as far as I'm concerned DAD'S TWEED COAT is a Necessary Necessity (see page 116) for reminding us what is real and worthwhile in all of us. Thanks for writing it. It was and is...a good Reed."
