Wow.....after reading Cari's review, I feel kinda like "what did I see that she didn't?" I thought this book was great! Artwork is beautiful, characters interesting, intriguing story, etc... I liked the way this story started immediately, no waiting for it to get good, it was good from the start, at least, I think so.

Maybe the difference in opinion is because I have no prior experience with this author/artist "Kosen" and Cari does. She seems to have been expecting something else, and since this is my first "Kosen" book, I had no expectations to fulfill so I was satisfied with what I got.

My advice to readers is "give it a chance" if you like dark, mysterious, supernatural, twists & turns, etc... Don't buy it with already set expectations. I enjoyed it and will be reading future volumes.

I'm sort of sad to give this book such a mediocre review. I had high hopes for it.

Firstly, The GOOD:
The art is great. Kosen never disappoints visually.
The printing is nice too. My copy had some interior color art.

Secondly, The BAD:
The plot wasn't particularly good. The best way to put it I think is in Kosen's own words as summarized from the book - they created these characters and ideas several years ago, then they went on to print other comics. Then they came back to Daemonium ... and it shows. It's very angsty and somewhat immature in concept. I could not connect at all with the characters, often their actions devolved into senseless angst to make the plot hopefully darker. Also, Kosen seems to have difficulty writing things that aren't yaoi. I feel sort of cheated in that some relationships in this comic seem to need sex to make them interesting, but unlike Kosen's comics printed by yaoi press... I think this comic won't have satisfactory sexiness seeing as how Tokyopop doesn't specialize in such things.

I'm sorry, Kosen. I really like your previous work, but ... I probably won't pick up volume 2 of Daemonium. T_T I'm really really sorry.
