Daewoo's 34-inch HDTV-ready DSC3470N offers convenient dual tuning (with two NTSC tuners) and a host of audio features designed to let you take advantage of DTV and DVD surround sound signals even without an AV receiver or a six-channel speaker setup. (DTV reception requires the use of an external DTV set-top box.) The set performs line doubling and up-conversion (to 480p) of NTSC signals from cable boxes, VCRs, and camcorders. The 34-inch Pure Flat CRT screen is configured in a widescreen, 16:9 aspect ratio for optimal viewing of HDTV and anamorphic letterboxed DVDs.

Picture enhancements include a dynamic focus system, digital 3D comb filtering, black-level expansion for low-light viewing, velocity-modulation scanning, and video noise reduction for interlaced inputs. You'll also enjoy conveniences like auto channel programming; V-Chip parental locks; two-tuner, twin-picture zoom/panorama; POP (picture outside picture); and four-language onscreen display (English, French, Spanish, Portuguese).

A three-speaker sound system for left-channel, center-channel, and right-channel audio saves space if you don't want separate front speakers, while speaker outputs make it easy to hook up an external subwoofer and left and right surround satellites. The DSC3470N decodes Dolby Pro Logic surround sound internally (from TV broadcasts, DVDs, and VHS tapes) and routes the audio to the appropriate channels. The main left-right speakers are powered by 8 watts each and the center channel gets 5 watts. Connections consist of one RF input, four audio-video inputs (two composite-video, two S-video), one component-video input, one high-definition component-video input, a headphone jack, and one set of analog-audio outputs for left and right surround channels and a subwoofer. The set measures 41 inches wide by 26 inches high and 24 inches deep and weighs 180 pounds.

Like the tv. However, after about a month the color started to fuzz when things moved on the screen. Also a green discoloration formed on the edges.

Contacted an authorized service center. They and I have been calling Daewoo technical support for the last two months trying to get some kind of information to fix the TV. Daewoo does not seem to support its product or to return calls to its service centers or its customers. If you believe that customer support as a part of what you pay for (especially for something that costs $$$) then you want to buy Sony, Toshiba, anything but Daewoo.

(Read my update below.) I was careful before springing for a relatively unknown brand, although Daewoo is a giant conglomorate of companies and experienced in electronics. The picture quality is excellent even without an HDTV decoder, and the features will satisfy everyone but the most discriminating viewers with the most complex systems. I bought it at a warehouse club at a great price. The manual is ridiculously simple but the onscreen menu is intuitive and thought out. A very good television.
UPDATE. I HAVE HAD THE TV FOR LESS THAN A MONTH AND THERE IS A LOOSE CONNECTION SOMEWHERE WHICH CAUSES THE PICTURE TO GO OUT. THE TECH DEPT AT DAEWOO IS VERY HELPFUL AND THE TV WAS REPLACED OVER TWO MONTHS AGO WITH NO PROBLEMS. GREAT PICTURE QUALITY. IT COULD HAVE BEEN DROPPED IN SHIPPING, BUT QUALITY IS UNKNOWN. IF THE PRICE IS WORTH THE RISK, GO FOR IT.

This is the best TV I have ever owned, I don't know how I was able to live without HD TV. I would definetly buy from Daewoo again. I will never buy a non HD set again. I did my homework before the purchase and this was the best deal I could find on a set this large with an HD tuner in it.
