Best DVD player i've owned,
By
This review is from: Daewoo DVG-9200N Progressive Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
I've owned half a dozen DVD players in my lifetime. My favorite brand is Philips. Most of their DVD players are very well made and have few problems. I'm normally one to believe that unless you go with a $200 unit you won't be without some sort of bugs.I picked this up and couldn't believe the price. Such a decent looking DVD player for this cheap? I didn't know much about Daewoo and I certainly didn't think DAEWOO equaled quality. How good could this cheap of player be anyway? I've used it for 6 months straight now and it's near perfect. I've encountered, in all honesty, ZERO problems AT ALL. My plan was to temporarily use this player until my "GOOD" player got returned by my friend, but when I hooked the old one up I was so disappointed with the old players picture quality that I hooked this one up. BTW I should point out that my old player I bought for $150 a year before. I also will point out that I use this player with very high quality cables. The cables were used on my old player and actually cost more than this player itself! I currently have it hooked up via component cables to a 43" Grand Wega LCD projection television. Would you believe that a $45-$50 DVD player is my DVD player for choice for a TV that cost over $2000? Yes, it's true. Ok, so no problems, but I do have some complaints. I can't complain really. How can you expect the high quality parts for just $50 or so? You can't! Since the unit is very thin the tray is VERY flimsy. Be careful. Don't let children or senior citizens use the tray as a cup holder or you're be sorry. The DVD player itself looks nice. The remote is one of the ugliest remotes i've seen. It would be perfectly fine if it wasn't made out of yellowish brown plastic for the front. The nicest thing about this player is that if it dies, I just walk back into the store and buy another one, it's that cheap to replace. Why bother with getting it fixed if it's out of warranty?

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Daewoo DVG-9200N Progressive Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
I bought this for my mother in law in Brazil. Her city uses 120v, so no issue about power. Her TV is also mono, and no trouble in the menus to make the DVD player do Mono (if you want). The region free hack worked great. Just open the tray, press 1,3,5,7,0 (slowly) on the remote, and you have a region free DVD player. It withstood the trip in my suitcase fine, and I find it stylish and easy to use. I can't recommend it more. Hope you enjoy yours.

Great Features but short Life,
By
This review is from: Daewoo DVG-9200N Progressive Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
The features on this bargain DVD player are excellent. The player has a great function display on it's face and good on screen prompts. The problem is it suddenly quit loading DVDs after less than sixteen months and is now junk. So if you want a good DVD player that will last you just long enough to be beyond the one-year parts warrantee, this is the unit for you.

Works Good - For about 9 months,
By
This review is from: Daewoo DVG-9200N Progressive Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
You should consider this DVD player a 9-month lease. Works well, but in 9-12 months, some DVDs stop loading. Then, about 6 months later, nothing loads. This is not confined to just one machine. I had 3 of these, and they all were dead within 18 months. It doesn't make sense they would all have this problem. Perhaps the software inside is setup to disintegrate at a specified date. Perhaps some component dies. Whatever the case, I'm 3 for 3 on these dying. All identical machines.

excellent value,
This review is from: Daewoo DVG-9200N Progressive Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
This DVD player was cheap... in fact the store where I bought my computer (not cheap) actually threw it in as a bonus. I was quite amazed to find out that it has a great 10-bit video DAC, and a 24-bit/96Khz audio DAC. AND a digital audio receiver chip which can decode HDCD! This is a relatively high-end feature, as is the digital optical TOSLINK output. Picture quality is excellent. Audio is beyond what one would expect for an el-cheapo-deluxe player, in fact is on part with much more expensive units. I guess quality of output FAR FAR outstrips "soft buttons on the remote" as a selling feature for me (as one other reviewer whined). It can also play CD's, MP-3 discs (CD-R AND CD-RW) and PhotoCD format discs! What more could you ask for $50?

The search for a decent DVD player goes on...,

This DVD player looks fantastic on paper. But, like all the other cheapo players out there, in practice it's a complete letdown. We bought two and we're on the second one within 3 months as the first has started to die and keeps juttering and crashing on different discs.Pros: - Good picture quality for a cheapo DVD player - DTS, progessive scan, and component out - Good PAL -> NTSC Conversion including anamorphic widescreen - Easy to make region-free Cons: - The transport mechanism seems to be as poorly made as it could possibly be done. It is the transport that is causing the first player to fail. - If you leave it on pause for more than 20-30 minutes or so, the DVD player shuts down and loses your place on the DVD you were watching. - No memory function for auto-replay of different discs when you've taken them out of the player. - The tray is so flimsy, it almost bends 45 degrees when you put a disc in. - Ours started to die within 60 days. Good Luck on yours if you buy one. At ~$40 it's probably worth a shot.

"Best DVD player I've owned",

First I'd like to say that delivery of this item was "lightening-fast", I'd ordered an import concert dvd and I knew I needed to find a "multi-region Pal/Ntsc player". Boy am I happy!, I didn't even need to press numbers on the remote!,all I had to do was read the operating manual and set my TV to "ntsc" in the player system and voila'!; it automatically plays "Pal/Ntsc" dvd's. Thanks to Amazon and North Star I'm able to watch my Monica Naranjo concert!. But, nothing is perfect in this world and the remote control for this unit does not work perfectly It's difficult to switch chapters on dvd's, otherwise for being this inexpensive,I highly recommend it.

I had owned a Cyberhome CH-402 for a couple of years, until it crapped out on me, and by a recommendation from folks on a movie board I belong to, I bought this DAEWOO DVG-9200N player.I have alot of non-Region 1 Pal/ntsc dvd's, and my main focus was for a dvd player to be able to play my "Anamorphic" NON Region 1 ntsc dvd's correctly. There are alot of low-end players that you can hack, that will play non R1 pal/ntsc dvd's, but not ALL will play an Anamorphic dvd correctly. By correctly, I mean that the player will display a non R1 anamorphic dvd as you would see it normally with an R1 ntsc dvd on a standard ntsc player, and NOT as a "squeezed" or "stretched" look to it. Alot of low-end players will do just that to anamorphic R2 Pal dvd's for instance, w/ the stretched or squeezed look. This, my friends, does NOT do that, and plays all my anamorphic non R1 ntsc dvd's correctly. This was a HUGE factor in purchasing this player. Well, that, and on the recommendation that it was a stand up player in it's own right. It's played everything I've thrown in it, from dvd-r/+r/-rw/+rw, cd-r/rw. I haven't tried any vcd's in it, as I don't have any, so I cannot comment on those. The hack is unbelieveably simple. Even a 5yr. old could do it. I got mine at Target on sale for $40, and is one of the best investments I've made in a while. So good, that I bought another as a stand-by. This player seems to be a little hidden secret, as many folks don't seem to know about it, and it's capabilities, yet. But believe me, it's definetly worth the price.

Daewoo DVG-9200N---non-functioning, without directions,
This review is from: Daewoo DVG-9200N Progressive Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
Had I wanted to throw away money without getting functional DVD player with complete directions IN ENGLISH I'd simply have made out a check to some charity. No warranty included, so as far as I am concerned I spent money for nothing.
