An eclectic trip into the the more innovative side of Dutch music, July 6, 2007
This review is from: Dagen Van Gras (Audio CD)
Spinvis is an excellent choice if you want to dabble into the more innovative side of Dutch music. While the typical Dutch stuff that makes it onto Amazon tends to be of the mainstream pop or folk variety, Spinvis offers a detour into the more alternative and experimental direction. "Dagen van Gras" shows a wide range of influences and an eclectic blend of sounds. The material on this album brings to mind a number of comparisons. The album starts off showing a bit of a "neder-biet" sound reminiscent of Dutch garage + beat music of the 60s, then veers into folk-rock stuff you could compare with an American act like Wilco, eventually ending with a more electronic sound that resembles German electronic pop bands like The Notwist. Amazingly, this diverse blend of sounds comes together quite nicely... I'd definitely recommend this album, even to folks who don't know enough Dutch to understand the lyrics!
