3.0 out of 5 stars A Competent Follow-up, November 23, 2005
This review is from: Dagger and Guitar (Audio CD)
I believe this was Sort Sol's second album, but also go check out Under En Sort Sol-an earlier work that is well worth buying. Dagger and Guitar is more refined than Under En Sort Sol, and even has punk-raunch queen Lydia Lunch on a track or two which may or may not be an asset here, I haven't decided yet, even after 20-plus years (yes, this album is that old). This CD has 4 extra tracks that were not on the original vinyl (the last 4 in the Amazon listing). The problem with garage bands (except for The Fall) is that when you learn to play your instrument well the garage sound is no longer relevant. Here they're breaking out and the tearing, slashing, raw sound from Under En Sort Sol is fast disappearing. This works for White Shirt, a nicely executed small hit. And, actually, as I'm writing this, I now remember Lydia Lunch on Boy-Girl and it made the song. So this is music worth buying and playing now and then to hear Lydia's vocals and the song White Shirt, and maybe a couple others.
