Editorial Reviews

From the release of their debut album Balance in 1999, Swollen Members captivated the underground hip hop world with live shows that took the raw explosive energy of rock music and powered it with the groups jaw dropping lyrical ability. The group s universal appeal caught the attention of both underground and mainstream audiences and while earning accolades, as well as Juno awards in their native Canada. The group has gone on to sell over 250,000 units in the United States. Over the years the group has collaborated with Everlast, Psycho Realm, Evidence, The Alchemist, Planet Asia, Chali 2Na, Nelly Furtado, Talib Kweli and Tech N9ne.

Swollen Members burst back onto the scene after a three year hiatus with Armed to the Teeth in late 2009. The album landed at #146 on the Top 200, #23 Independent Chart, #5 Heat Seekers/New Artist chart, and #11 on the Rap chart.

With emcee Madchild now free from his addiction to painkillers and having endorsed all his demons, he has returned to Swollen Members with a vengeance to record their seventh studio album Dagger Mouth . From the powerful production of Rob the Viking to the dark poetic abstract expressionism of Madchild and Prevail, Dagger Mouth is a return to the classic Swollen Members sound by harnessing the group s savage and chaotic energy into one focused and commanding effort.

I am soooooooo glad that they have went back to their roots on this one because their 2009 album Armed to the teeth according to many critics it was a Flop (only 3,400 units sold in the first week). It did not sound like the SM that we wanted to hear. It was One Autotune too many.Tre Nyce who is not A member of SM was on Too many appearances andthey were talking About All this gangsta ish, gucci, $250,000 cars, sleeping with Pornstars and bollywood chicks and it bothered me so i stopped listening to the whole Album with the exception of songs like Kyla, meltdown,Lonely one and funeral march that were classics SM Music. Back to Daggermouth, Once again I am Soooooo glad that they returned to their roots. the Beats on here are butter, Prev and Mad were always on point. This is an extention of Bad Dreams And Black Magic that were Very dope albums. as for mad child, we all glad that he is off those Drugs and getting back to making music Again. Also i wanted to point out that I am glad that they did'nt have Tre Nyce aka Lil wayne jr on here. The stand Out Tracks for on here For me are Mr.impossible, fresh Air(the beat was so sick,it reminds me of transformers),Bring me down(remix)feat Saigon(another Subnoize artist),and Do or Die and It did not Include their other single going for the kill which didn't make the cut on the album and it is also a sick song And the rest are not worth skipping. so go get this Because SM are Officially Back where they belong. that real Hip Hop not that AT3 B.S.

Best Swollen album since Black Magic. Production by Rob the Viking is amazing and Prev & Mad Child are on point as always. I am blown away. Pick this up ASAP!

and say a 4.5, but like any band that is good enough to persist over time, some of their musical forays will fall a little flat (see Zeppelin, Led on down to Ca, Metalli- and really anyone that tasted a little fame and soonafter showed up at the studio a little too keyed up and with a twelve-piece band in tow ... or some cheesy dance beats). And MadChild has clearly gone through some tough times and is trying to get back to what he does best. And he does, and Rob has great beats (I'd expect nothing less), and Prev sounds great too. Black Magic had great songs like "Massacre," one of my top five if not their best track overall, but other tracks were too plodding. This album is much more listenable straight through with a number of exceptional tracks, and clearly evokes the early albums. "Do or Die" is great to start off, a good, full track instead of a quick intro. "Moonshine" reminded me why I love these guys. "Devil" as well and the remaining tracks are strong, too. It's great to see these guys back in business and working hard after some tough times so I have to consider that too. Five stars. The fact that I can buy a new SM album with strong tracks on it in 2011 is a wonderful thing.

Man, don't even know where to start, this CD just has it all. Mad Child and Prevail both deliver great rhymes on every track, and the beats are terrific from Rob The Viking. This is in my opinion one of the best hip hop releases I have ever heard, the cd grabs you by the horns from the get go and never lets go. It's like a dark and twisted story that you can't take your eyes off, it's just too compelling.

Saw another reviewer complaining that Mad talks about his past addiction a lot, well he delivers great rhymes and makes you feel all the pain he has been dealing with, I can totally relate to what he is saying. If you ever had trouble with addiction or any demons, Shane's lyrics can be soothing and make you even want to kick a bad habit. This CD is life-changing, folks, don't sleep.

Thanks for bringing me some great music to kick back to, Mad and Prevail.

Much love to Swollen and Subnoize.

Armed to the Teeth was okay but it felt like it had a lot of mainstream influence and was not much like the Swollen I know and love. The intellectual vibe was certainly lacking there but they have brought it back with Daggermouth. I've soaked it in for a few days now and I am happy to say they went back to mastering their art of real hip hop rich with intellect. Out of all of their albums this one is definitely on my highly recommended list along with Black Magic and Heavy. This is going to be another album that will be coming across my mp3 player on the regular.

Swollen has returned to reclaim the throne!!!! they went back to their original style of dark eerie beats, and rob the viking has really rolled up his sleeves for this one. I would even go as far as to say this album was better than black magic. Their last album armed to the teeth was very commercialized and messed up by a retard known as tre nice. It was full of auto tune, and booty shaker beats. This album is a huge step in the right direction. I am ready for the next one.....sick production, awesome lyrics, and savage beats.

swollen is back to reclaim the throne. I really like this canadians...although my favorite album is Black Magic , Daggermouth has some amazing beats and excellent lyrics from Madchild and Prevail ,but Madchild mostly. I really like their newer stuff, more than their first albums. unlike most people.
