This review is from: Daggers 8 (DVD)
Daggers 8 has fight scenes that suffer badly. That is unless Wilson Tong, the film's action director and main villain, is involved. His fight with Lily Li is especially a treat. Our hero, Chu Chi Chung (Yuen Man Meng, "Hell's Windstaff") keeps getting new and better teachers who keep getting killed one by one. He must use what he has learned from all of them to defeat the Killer Bah (Tong).

The film quality is okay, very watchable, but ya know. This receives only 3 of 5 stars because of how sucky the fights are that Wilson Tong isn't in. This movie almost gets an extra star because of Yuen Man Meng's acrobatic abilities. I could watch this dude do flips and back-hand springs all day. Simply incredible. There is a spot on the DVD where I got kicked out, but the 2nd time through the scene I had no problems.

4.0 out of 5 stars A kung fu classic, September 7, 2007
This review is from: Daggers 8 (DVD)
Mung Yuen Men plays a young man who wants to learn kung fu instead of being a scholar. He goes to look for a kung fu teacher. His first teacher is a cook played by Chan Lung. Right as Mung Yuen Men starts learning his teacher gets killed by an assassin played by Wilson Tong. His next teacher is played by the great Alan Chui. Right as he begins to learn Alan Chui gets killed by the same assassin. After learning from a third teacher Mung Yuen Men is finally good enough to take revenge on the killer.

All of the fights are long and exciting and expertly choreographed by Wilson Tong. Chan Lung's fight is pretty good. Alan Chui's fight is outstanding. Alan Chui's acrobatic skills are second to none and he also has some of the sickest kung fu moves around. Both Alan Chui and Wilson Tong have unlimited moves in their repertoires and it makes for an amazing fight. Then when you think the movie can't get any better, it does! The beautiful Lily Li plays the third teacher and teaches Mung Yuen Men the soft fist. Lily Li is one of my favorite kung fu movie stars and her fight with Wilson Tong is probably the best fight of her career. The only other time I have seen her look this good was in 'The Loot'.

All of the fight scenes are good but the final fight takes it up another notch. Get ready to rewind a few times.

The star of the movie Mung Yuen Men has acrobatic skills that are up there with anybody. It is sad that he only got a handful of lead roles like this. I would have him on my list of favorites but he just wasn't in very many movies.

4/5

Picture quality on the Videoasia DVD is bad but watchable.

This review is from: Daggers 8 (DVD)
I can't believe that there is no review on this awesome movie. I bought this flick at a pathmark. it's old school at it's absolute best. plenty of back in the woods fast action fighting with lots of technigue. its by videoasia but picture quality n sound very decent.I'm warning you collectors you'll be cheating yourself big time if you don't get this one.
