5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful compilation of Major League stars' records, February 8, 2012

This review is from: Daguerreotypes of great stars of baseball (Paperback)
"Daguerreotypes" was published in 1968 by the Sporting News, was updated twice, and came in paper and hard cover versions. There are countless books with lifetime major league records (of stars, chosen for specific career stats like total hits, homers, lifetime wins, etc.) What makes this unique and very worthwhile to the fan of such things is the inclusion of all Minor League stats, information which is largely ignored. I find it fascinating to see how these great players began, sometimes rather humbly, and then usually rising to a level far beyond their team mates. Examples: Willie Mays starting off the season at AAA Mineapolis hitting a mere .477 after 35 games, and Lefty Grove have consecutive seasons of 12-2, 25-10, 18-8, 27-10 and 27-6 before moving up to the Philadelphia A's (and later Red Sox) where he won 300 games, square on the nose.

An obscure book but worth finding. Note: I am reviewing the 1981 (final) version. I believe earlier versions had a different format, so the above only applies to 1981.
