The "Speak English or Die" of 2001!,
By
This review is from: Dahmer (Audio CD)
I was fortunate enough to pick up one of the first thousand printed of this CD, and it has been a much-played mainstay in my collection ever since. "Dahmer" is the kind of cult album that achieves popularity by word of mouth, much like "Speak English or Die" did in the mid to late eighties. It's not so much "Dahmer's" subject matter or freshness of riffs being the key to it's greatness, but rather the catchiness and tongue-in-cheek humor of the songs that makes it a must-buy. Plus these guys pretty much know what they're talking about in the way of Dahmer. Corporate Death (guitarist) sat in on Dahmer's trial and chronicles events based on the testimonies of Dahmer and others in the lyrics of the songs; his childhood, how he lured men in by drugging their drinks, the "Temple of Bones" he wanted to create from his victims, etc. Makes for an interesting record, as well as the stellar production of the record, which Macabre spent a great deal on. Buy it and get a slice of the sordid life of one Jeffrey Dahmer.

do not hesitate reader: BUY THIS ALBUM!If you are into metal at all you need this recording. If you have never heard MACABRE before you may scoff at the vocals but the eloquence of the music far outshines what is at first listen some of the goofiest sounding vocals. The first time I heard macabre I was blown away that they were only a three piece and as three they are so tight it sounds like one consciousness. This is stripped down raw music clean and crisp like fresh sheets. I think I've owned this cd for a year now and it hasn't wandered too far from the cd player ever. always bludgeoning unsuspecting clients with undeniable groove and sick lyrics about a disturbing fellow doing some very wrong things. Macabre makes their metal catchy without overworking the hook. This is destined to be an all time great among metal albums...

Just DO the Dahmer,

This review is from: Dahmer (Audio CD)
I would like to give the album a 5 but there seem to be a couple filler tracks on it. Other than that its a great album, I would recommened it to any fan of thrash/death/speed metal with a sense of humor. The one thing you should know before buying is the vocals take a little getting used so don't take them seriously when you first here them, and don't take the album lyrics seriously either to me they're basically the lighter side to Jeffreys life.

Jeff Dahmer turn the boy into bones, just brilliant,
This review is from: Dahmer (Audio CD)
I give the 4 stars to this record, beacause is brutal and the band have done a very good work, the production of the record is better than the others old Macabre albums, but i always going to say that the best Macabre album ever it's Sinister Slaughter, but don't worry this is one piece of fine death metal album, of course in the Macabre way, personaly the best songs in the record are: Dog Guts, Konerak, Do the Dahmer, The Brain, The Bath House, well i only have left to say is that i highly recommend you this album.

This will get 5 stars just for being different from any other album out there. Mainly rock, with hints of death and blues metal, Also with the comical similarities of GWAR. get a copy of this album and a copy of the lyrics. I havent laughed at an album like this in a long time. Its sick, its funny, its dark, its great! also, if you read this review and like this band, I dont know if id look into their other stuff, it no where near compares to this (unless they are planning on releasing a another album soon)"the smell of rotting meat, got worse with summer heat..." (cannot post too many lyrics from this due to content) Mcdahmer's - "Mcdahmer's - its not a happy place, Mcdahmer's - he'll boil off your face, Mcdahmer's - You'll never leave this place"

If you are fascinated by the Dahmer case, one look at the track list will tell you that this album covers the story from beginning to end. Being a metal fan, this album easily won it's way into my heart since a lot of other Dahmer inspired music I've heard just wasn't my genre.Musically, it is fantastic, dark and driving. The vocals are, well, interesting. For the most part they don't bother me but there are a few tracks where I just ponder "why in the world would he scream it like that?" I also have to wonder if the lyrics weren't Dahmer based if I'd find the vocals less palatable. Some of the songs here are dark while several take a comical approach with parodies. "Scrub A Dub Dub" is particularly disturbing in that I think it's the most twisted tonality to take with the subject matter on the album. Perhaps because it's comedy isn't straightforward like "Jeffrey and the Chocolate Factory". Sick, but I like it. Dahmer lands an easy 4-stars from me just for being a driving metal album all about Dahmer. This is the only Macabre album I have ever heard, or care to hear for that matter, so I can't really comment on the sound of this album compared to other material by the group. What stops it from being a 5-star album is that the lyrics are often not very creative and I believe that they could have been better. My favorite tracks tell a Dahmer chapter point in interesting fashion while others have a sort of straight-forward "I'm just telling you what happened as if we were just talking about it" sort of style. "Blood Bank", for example, is written this way and it just kills it for me. "McDahmers" seems like it was written entirely around thinking that 'McDahmers' is funny; which it is, but the song doesn't hold up much more and feels like a filler track. On the flip side, Apartment 213 has a nice flow to it and builds an atmosphere to the story. "Hitchhiker" is another stand out track that is a straightforward assault pertaining to the cold, dark and twisted world where Jeffrey was left alone and took his first victim. The album even touches on some of the funnier moments of Jeff's story like when he told two young boys "I'm having a great time!" when they spied him playing with himself on the beach. Ultimately, this album has quickly become one of my favorites because of it's subject matter and the fact that it is within my genre preferences. I cannot say that it makes me interested in other Macabre material, however. I may venture out to hear some of their other work but I have a strong suspicion that I won't enjoy them outside of feeding my serial killer obsession and particularly my Dahmer intrigue. I should also note that I find it strange that the album has no mention of the mannequin that Jeffrey stole from a store and kept in his closet for masturbatory purposes. With a track list that touches on so much, I just find it odd that this is absent. Not that this makes a difference. I just would have loved to hear Macabre tell a sickening death metal love story about it.

Morbidly fascinating and delightfully fun!,

Macabre have made such a unique and "epic" Dahmer-album by their tongue-in-cheek factor alone. A straightforward death metal band could linger on the details and atrocities of Dahmer, but Macabre paint a portrait that is both vicious, true and funny. It's full of rocking melody-gems, renditions of the Charlie & The Chocolate Factory oompah loompah-theme as well as When Johnny Comes Marching Home - all providing the most unique account of the Wisconsin "gay killer" there ever was. Some of the tracks are pretty enjoyable in their own right though, and there's a darker and more brutal side to the music as well, but it keeps an overall heartily tone despite the subject matter.Unfortunately it doesn't feel like the production of an "A-list"-album, and the sound quality is a bit dodgy at times, especially the bass "hissing" rather than humming. I'd still recommend it for anyone with a dark sense of humor or an interest in Dahmer though, it's just one of the quirkiest concept albums out there.

most delightful not-easy-listening ever,

First time i got Macabre record in 1991. Someone sold me "Gloom" LP as price-saving bonus to "Arise" by Sepultura. I was joyfully shocked - it was LOVE at first listen. "Gloom" was much much much better than any Sepultura's effort. Many years are gone. I forgot about stupid metal, i switched to other genres and styles of music. However when I got noticed than new Macabre album is released, I bought the ONLY copy of "Dahmer", found in Moscow's biggest record market "Gorbushka". And as i listened to it, i've got a feeling that good ole times are back! It's the incredible piece of twisted sickening art! And more I listened, more i loved "Dahmer" - I guess it even better than "Gloom", "Grim Reality" or "Sinister Slaughter". The most important thing, you must know about this band - it's completely unique. There no other band, sounding like it. They could play anything - death, punk, blues, comic songs, grindcore, country with excellent skills and bottomless cup of music ideas. 5 for everyone - gore, music, tempos, concept, lyrix and (most important) - enthusiasm.

If your not prepera for a very weird, disturbing, heavy, and a thrash/technical sound all at once ? Don't bother...If you want every thing that i just said? Look no further then macabre, with their mind destroyer/asylum sound as well as very original. No one sounds like macabre and macabre doesn't sound like any one but themselfes. Buy macabre's "Dahmer" and don't think twice! Highly recommended.

I stumbled across this band a few years ago and nothing's been the same since. These guys F***ing blast and they are halarious too. Dahmer was my first impression of Macabre and i was drawn into the murder metal scene immediatly. If you are easily offended by stuff of this sort then this wouldnt be for you but if you can appreciate it then i would strongly urge you to pick this one up, and the rest of the Macabre cornucopia. Half the fun of this band is being able to freak out your friends. Ive listened to this thing through at least 100 times and it still makes me crack up. you learn alot about our old pal jeff. BUY THIS ALBUM.
