I work with tons of IP cameras, from enterprise grade cameras (Vivotek) to consumer grade stuff (Foscam) and this camera blows every single one out of the water. The quality is well above the Vivotek 1 and 2 Megapixel cameras (obviously this is a 3 MP camera, but they always say that and it is never as good as it sounds).

What really gets me is the night image quality. I have a Ubiquiti AirCam (the Bullet) installed in my driveway and when it hits dusk, you cannot see a thing. Obviously there is no IR abilities on the AirCam, but just use that for reference. With this Camera, even no moon and barely any ambient light you can still see good. Once you turn black and white and IR on, the area is lit up like it was daytime. I have included 4 photos. 1 with no IR, but with front porch light, with no IR and no front porch light, with IR on and no front porch light on and with IR on and front porch light. the results are nothing short of amazing.

I had some issues in my neighborhood, with car prowls, and a home robbery, so I decided to build a camera solution.
I had tried all the regular stuff, Foscam, Linksys, Dropcam type stuff... I eventually just threw all of those cameras away, they were beyond useless.
Then I found Dahua, a weird Chinese brand with little documentation or support, but their cameras had high quality picture and IR.
I got some 720p ones first, which worked well, then I added 1080p camera, all record nicely onto a PC running Blue Iris.

One fateful night in May, an arsonist went through the neighborhood! He set two homes on fire, several cars, a couple boats, and the last house he set on fire was mine!
The cameras recorded his approach up my driveway, and his deliberate actions setting my porch furniture on fire. It was a dark night, but the IR did enough to get an idea of his clothing, race, height, etc.
It was one of my older Dahua cameras, the semi-HD one, which was a couple years old. The newer ones return even better pictures.
After the fire was set, the smoke obscured my other porch camera, so its motion sensing wasn't working as well, but it recorded the firefighter putting out the fire on the porch.

Since I was able to get video evidence to detectives so quickly, and it was high enough quality, they blasted the pictures across every news channel, newspaper, etc and were able to catch him in less than 48 hours.

He has since been charged with multiple felony arsons, and is facing a longggg time in jail.

Without these cameras, he may never have been caught!

The quality outweighs the price tag. Def. got a feeling of value. I originally purchased this item because I own a Huacam that was having early issues however most of them have been solved so I decided to not return it just yet. I got this item to replace the Huacam and the quality is day and night since the picture is just... well amazing for "what it is". I say that since there are not that many quality cameras out there. You can go to a local BJ's and buy a set looking around $800 bucks for everything to have horrible picture quality and a DVR that doesn't work well at all. I do have mention that the Huacam had decent picture for a 720 resolution...

Anyway, back to the review...

Pros:

- Someone mentioned the Web GUI isn't that good. I do not know what this person is talking about since the web client is probably the best I've worked with for IP network cams web page. I'm a software engineer and know what good UI/UX is because that's my primary role at work. I have other cameras, DLink, Foscam, Huacam, and the web clients are HORRIBLE on all of them, not so much on the DLink.

- Access control and a method of "brute force" security. If you fail login, it will lock you out. This is a feature DLink, Foscam, and Huacam do not have. I'm a programmer and I could write scripts that can brute force network ports if I wanted to so this prevents that from happening. Reminds me of the popular fail2ban daemon for linux.

- 3MP 1080 resolution is simply fantastic. The picture quality is awesome. I can adjust the picture quality for different day / night profiles. You really don't get these many options like other brands provide which are way too plane jane. i.e.

UPDATE: Thursday July 31, 2014 - We now have 12 of these cameras. 6 for our homes, 6 for our business office. All of them work seamlessly, no more defective ones so far (see original review below), and with static ips, I can watch from anywhere in the world, and I love the POE setup - no dealing with power cables - just cat 5e and a POE switch or an POE injector if you are not able to afford the POE Switch.

------------------------------------

UPDATE: Friday March 7th 2014 - We now have 8 of these, love them. Using security spy for mac, after having setup each ip camera with its own unique ip address, changing the default (192.168.1.108) to something unique, setting them up one at a time. These have done wondrous so far, very easy to manage. Only the one defective one mentioned below.

------------------------------------

I bought 4 of these. 1 was defective, leaving me with 3 that are working still after 2 weeks of use. The other one would just stop working, I though at first it was our cat5line, so I had it professionally replaced while I put the camera on another line that I know is working great, but in the end it was the camera not our lines. So out of 4 purchased, one had to be returned. I'm ok with a defective product as long as it can be replaced, but it seems that 1 of 4 is pretty bad, and other reviews state theirs didn't work on arrival. Other than that, these cameras are superb so far. (If you see my video review, you'll see the HD quality (highest 3MP video setting) and how we know which neighborhood dogs are leaving their stuff on our lawn - sorry neighbors, we got on video ;)

I have used the Astak MOLE and many other security web based IP cameras and so far these beat them all as far as quality of image and video.
