5.0 out of 5 stars Dahveed: Yahweh's Chosen, April 24, 2009
This review is from: Dahveed: Yahweh's Chosen (Paperback)
I really need to thank my friend who got me Terri Fivash's first book Joseph. It was a masterpiece that I found myself reading several times. Then I read Ruth and Boaz and I was sure then that I had a new favourite author. The ending of Ruth and Boaz left me anxiously awaiting - for almost a year - the availability of Dahveed. I honestly thought she had outdone herself on the first two books and wondered whether Dahveed would be up to par. That was until I actually read Dahveed. What an amazing book! Never has an author's skill of story telling impressed me more. Not only is she a master story teller, but she is able to stay strictly in line with the biblical account of the story she is telling. Her background in history allows her to pay incredible attention to detail while she weaves an intricate cast of characters into the story and draws the reader into another time and place. I literally could not put these books down until I had finished them - especially Dahveed. This book takes an intimate look at the early life of one of the most amazing men who ever lived - Israel's beloved Dahveed - and allows the reader to share in his joys, sorrows, trials and triumphs. It takes the reader on a journey that encompasses the circumstances of his birth, spans his childhood and ends with him on the threshold of manhood poised to become God's Warrior. Reading her novels has opened up a whole new perspective on these well-loved bible stories for me. I now understand these characters and their stories more deeply than I used to. What a blessing. I would recommend Terri Fivash's books to anyone as it appears she cannot disappoint. My only protest is that the release date for the second volume in the Dahveed saga has not been announced. I anxiously await!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Read... Again!, February 20, 2009
This review is from: Dahveed: Yahweh's Chosen (Paperback)
Dahveed: Yahweh's Chosen, is an astounding story that really brings to life the biblical story of David. This first book on the life of the "Man after Gods own heart", shows just how David was Human, and yet allowed God to lead his life. This is another book that you will not want to put down! It's best not to start it until you know you will have time to read it through. It also has great re-readable value! I can hardly wait to read the rest of the series.

Reading the prequel (Ruth & Boaz) is not required, however if you like to know the back-story, it is also a great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dahveed, Yahweh's Chosen, May 2, 2009
This is the third book on bible Characters written by Terry Fivash. All three, Joseph, Ruth and Boaz, and Dahveed are excellently researched, with a vivid imagination and a gripping narrative. I have read all three several times and they can still move me to tears. I have read hundreds of books and these are the best reads yet. I was hoping to find the next book in the Dahveed Series was available. Soon I hope.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Story about the life of David., April 15, 2009
This review is from: Dahveed: Yahweh's Chosen (Paperback)
An excellent and gripping story that has the unexpected plus of being well researched and solidly based on the biblical account of David's life.

This first book in a planned series addresses David's early years, from child until young adult. The story is action packed but not at the expense of characterisation; I walked away from the story feeling as though I had a deeper understanding of David, Johnathan, Saul, Ruth and Jesse.

The most powerful aspect of this story is the presence of God, reading this book inspired and strengthened me in my own spiritual life. Too many christian books focus too much on the story using God as an extra character not as the driving motivation nor the ultimate reason for the story, leaving you feeling spiritually apathetic after reading. Kudos to Fivash for writing such a soul enriching story.

5.0 out of 5 stars DAHVEED: A STORY THAT INFORMS, ENTERTAINS, INSPIRES, August 2, 2009

This review is from: Dahveed: Yahweh's Chosen (Paperback)
If you are like me, you'll be captivated by Terri Fivash's DAHVEED: YAHWEH'S CHOSEN. It would be a very worthwhile adventure to sit in a history class taught by her. She has masterfully taken the almost "bare-bones" biblical account of David, and intricately interwoven historical facts about the culture of Dahveed's time.

Since I'm a person who lives what they read, I catch the sound of Dahveed's harp, and all but feel the attack that almost left him dead as a young child. As in Fivash's preceeding books, choices made are key to understanding the plot. I also got a real sense of the importance of Yahweh's presence in Dahveed's life.

Fivash's Front Material enlightens the reader as to the book's suitability for children, and how to pronounce the Bible characters' names. Actual Bible names used have an asterisk preceeding them. The cultural notes also flesh out the story. This book is not only capitivating, but educational.

You will definitely want to get each volume in her series as fast as it becomes available!

Terri L. Fivash books brings the old testament alive. You see the testament stories of Joseph, Ruth and Boaz, Dahveed in a totally new light. She writes an awesome, believable story and brings you right back in time for a plausible understanding of what might have taken place. I look forward to reading more of her books in the future. WOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dahveed, Yahweh's Chosen by Terri Fivash, November 24, 2009
Dahveed, Yahweh's Chosen: First,I just couldn't put it down. Then, I got angry with myself for not eating it very slowly and savoring every line. So I read it again, this time I enjoyed each page and chapter.

I could not put this book down! I bought this book and the second in the series, Dahveed: Yahweh's Warrior, for my 13-year-old son and then ended up reading both of them within 3 days! I'm absolutely addicted and keep scanning back through them, reliving my favorite parts.

Thank you, Terri, for making King David, and especially Jonathan, come alive to me. Their intense devotion to each other and to Yahweh is so uplifting and inspiring!!!

Excellent book. Well researched, well written, a gripping story that you won't want to put down. Would suggest however, that one reads Terri Fivash's other book Boaz & Ruth BEFORE beginning Dahveed, Yahweh's Chosen. It will give one some important background information to better understand the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dahveed: Yahweh's Chosen, April 6, 2009
This review is from: Dahveed: Yahweh's Chosen (Paperback)
Have you read "Joseph," and "Ruth & Boaz: Strangers in the Land"? Yes; well, with this next installment, almost as it were a continuation of the last book, Fivash has once again brought the characters of the Bible to life by submerging her readers into the life, trials, culture, and even as deep as the people themselves! There are times when you actually feel that you are so much a part of the story that time itself seems to have no restraints, as each page is filled with so much information, you feel as if you are there; the longer you stay immersed in the reading, you will hardly realize that so much time has gone by! I bought this book up on a Thursday afternoon, picked it up on a Friday evening, and by Saturday afternoon, I was finished it - and thirsty for more!
For those of you who have not read any of her previous books, I am quite sure that by the time you have finished this book, you will be craving to read not only the next books in this series, but looking to read the other books while you are waiting; those who have read the other books, I am quite sure that Fivash will not (I hope) keep us too long in waiting before her next book comes out. I must say, I really did not feel as if I were turning the pages, rather the detail was so good, I actually felt as if I were really sitting down listening to the story being told! Just imagine it: you are actually reliving the experiences told in this book as if you were really there, seeing for yourself the ups and downs of each and every fleshed-out character! Fivash doesn't begin with his birth, but you can actually see it in the back of your mind when Dahveed recounts it; even though muted, you also get the full effect of what it could have possibly been like to be with Shaul when he is undergoing his rage... but, I am saying too much already... and probably giving more away than is necessary.
However, if you have always been looking for a book that not only goes hand-in-hand with the Bible, but develops the characters so that they have (or at least seem to) more flesh and blood then many of the other books out there, pick up this one, read it, and then be the judge yourselves; however, I can assure you, you will not be disappointed. If you are disappointed in any area of this book, it is probably because of the abrupt ending - as I know I was, but I now realize that it actually ended in a good place, as any further along and you would feel as if the ending was forced, and if Fivash had ended any time earlier, you would have wished for just a little more. I can hardly wait for the next installment, so much so that I have gone and picked up her other two books and have commenced in reading them, hoping that Fivash will at least have one, if not two, more books out by the end of this year!
Out of a rating of 5 stars, I must honestly say that I wish that she could be given more, as Fivash deserves a standing ovation for the job she has done; divine inspiration has flooded her soul, and the output has been put into words applicable to us today. Therefore, she will be given the maximum amount of stars that can be given that is 5 out of 5. You will laugh, cry, rejoice, become worried, and more! The only other books - which now shy in comparison - on this topic that I can recommend, are "Michal," by Jill Eileen Smith; and "The Stones," by Eleanor Gustafson, but these are only dim reflections now.
