Great traditional bluegrass... I'd give this ten stars if I could!,

Some of the sweetest, most traditional-sounding bluegrass of the decade. Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent are both truegrass veterans - Darrin is Rhonda Vincent's brother, and was in her old band The Rage and also worked with John Hartford and Ricky Skaggs; Jamie Dailey sang with Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver in the late 1990s, and has been collaborating with Vincent for a several years. Their voices and musical strengths blend beautifully, recalling the harmony vocal tradition of the Stanley Brothers at its finest. About half this album is gospel material, and is as heartfelt and moving as anything you'll hear in the genre. The repertoire includes some excellent modern songs, including gems from the late Randall Hylton as well as Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. This is old-school melodic bluegrass at its very best: it really doesn't get any sweeter than this. Highly recommended! (DJ Joe Sixpack, Slipcue Guide To Hick Music)

I just heard this band in Hollywood, Maryland. I've been listening to bluegrass for over 30 years, and thought I heard it all. These guys take it to a new level. Their live performance absolutely blew me away. From the first note all the way through. They are non stop. One song after another. Although the album is very good, unfortunately a lot of their live stuff isn't on the album and the album doesn't quite capture the strong energy and the incredible harmony's these guys project. Still there are a few songs; Poor Boy Working blues, and Sweet Carrie that give a glimpse into what they are like live, and On the Mark gives a sense of their harmonies. I rate the album 4 stars, but only because I saw how great they are live, otherwise I'd have given it higher. The album also tends to be more gospelly than their live show. I'll be trying to catch them live again this year, which is a rarity for me. Our group even had people that didn't like bluegrass with us, and they were blown away. The band is touring the East now and may be playing near you. I think they have a website with their tour dates/venues.

This Is a Good One,

Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent, both veterans of years working with big-name bluegrass bands, have now teamed up to form a band of their own and have recently released their first album, the self-titled Dailey & Vincent. Dailey is best known for the nine years he spent with Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, the band he left in August 2007. Vincent, brother of Rhonda Vincent, got his start performing with his family's band, The Sally Mountain Show, and has worked with the biggest names in bluegrass and country music in recent years.
If Dailey & Vincent is any indication, these guys have a very bright future in bluegrass music. What makes this album, a mix of traditional bluegrass and gospel music with a little country thrown in for good measure, special are the harmonies featured in most of the songs. Jamie Dailey has one of the purest (and highest) high tenor voices in the business and Darrin Vincent's voice offers the perfect blend needed to create some memorable vocals. Among the album's strongest cuts are five gospel tunes, including an acappella performance of "Don't You Want to Go to Heaven When You Die," sung in four-part harmony and guaranteed to make you hold your breath as the lyrics seem to come faster and faster and get you wondering when the singers are going to run out of breath themselves. "By the Mark," a song that should be part of every Dailey & Vincent performance if it's not, gives Jamie Dailey the chance to demonstrate that superb high tenor of his and is sure to be an album favorite. The traditional bluegrass sound is well represented by standout songs such as "Cumberland River," "Poor Boy Workin' Blues" and my favorite, "Don't You Call My Name." This is a first class album debut but that should not be surprising considering the decades of musical experience that Dailey and Vincent already have under their belts. The guys have surrounded themselves with some fine musicians and promise to be just as good on stage as they are on this recording.

Amazing Harmony & musical style,

I've been a big bluegrass fan for years & just got this CD a few weeks ago. These 2 make a fantastic duo with the best harmonies out there. And their musical style & song selection is excellent. Mostly very traditional bluegrass and gospel music with just a hint of the new edge freshness.
If you liked the hit 'By the mark on his hands' you'll like the whole album. These guys have a hit CD on their hands.

Wow! I knew this was going to be a good recording. NOT DISAPPOINTED AT ALL. I've kept up with Mr. Dailey all the years he was with Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver and he learned from what in my opinion is the master of harmony and instrumental excellence. I look forward to many years of Dailey and Vincent and wish them well in all their endeavors. Thanks guys for an excellent CD.

IBMA Album of the Year Nomination,

I learned of the album release on Sirius and bought it the 1st day it was out. All the cuts are great, but "More Than a Name on a Wall" and "By the Mark" are my favorites. As a military retiree, the emotions flow when I hear "More Than a Name".
I'd followed Jamie for years with Doyle Lawson and was sad when he left. Now, I'm so proud to know the great group he and Darrin have put together. I had the opportunity to hear them live and speak to both of them in August. They've only just begun. Count 'em... ten (10) IBMA nominations including: Album of the Year Song of the Year (for "By the Mark") Song of the Year (for "More Than a Name on a Wall")

Amazing Bluegrass Voices,
This review is from: Dailey & Vincent (Audio CD)
I have just gotten through watching both these young men perform at the Argyle Tx Bluegrass Festival. These young men knocked the socks off of the crowd. What wonderful harmony and soul they project. They sang many of the songs that is on this CD and if it can get any better, I don't where to go. What a duo. Riley Chandler, Garland, TX

What talent-what a CD! All the songs on this project is worth 10 stars. I like their version of the The Statler Brothers classic, "Name On The Wall." the Cd CD begins with a rip-roaring, fast bluegrass song, "Sweet Carrie." I believe the future has just begun for these guys. I can't get enough of these guys.

As a younger(though now hitting my late 30's) fan of tradtional bluegrass, times have grwn further and further between finding a band that plays the music I grew up on. The Stanley brothers, Bill Monroe, Reno & Smiley, and so on. Luckily, we have acts that keep this tradtional style of this music still alive. Dailey and Vincent are already among the legends with this debut album alone.
The album has a nice mix of wonderfully upbeat, smooth flowing songs such as "Cumberland River" and "Sweet Carrie" to slow ballads of life with "More Than A Name On The Wall" and "River Of Time" to beautiful sung songs to Our Lord and Savior in the tunes "By The Mark" and "Place On Calary". This is only half of the dozen songs found on this CD and the other 6 hold the same water these 6 do! If you want to find a CD that good, traditioanl style Bluegrass, you just fond it. During the last 20 years that I have regulerly attended Bluegrass Festivals and followed this most wonderful of all music styles, I have been asked who is the current best band. My answer has always been the same; If you want gospel bluegrass, it is Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, and if you want good driving bluegrass with a good portion of gospel, it is Ricky Skaggs. Now when I am asked, I find myself saying "Dailey & Vincent"! |
