Hilarious and entertaining,
By
This review is from: The Daily Adventures of Mixerman (Hardcover)
Anybody who has ever spent time in a recording studio should read this. And those that haven't spent time in a recording studio should read it just to get a taste of what they DON'T miss.
As a musician and engineer/producer, some of the accounts in the book had me ROFL while other stories just ring VERY true. And behind all the sarcasm and outrageousness of the (true) tale of a band without any clue and little proficency but too much time and (loaned) money on their hands, there actually is much to be learned about record-making and producing. Highly remommended!

a very funny look at the reality of recording commercial rock,
This review is from: The Daily Adventures of Mixerman (Hardcover)
it can be said that what spinal tap was to rock movies, this book is to rock bands recording in the studio. it's a hilarious look at the process of recording a commercial rock band. it tends to beg the question, how much is real and how much is fiction. and like spinal tap, the answer is that even the most far fetched moments in this recording engineers diary have happened in a recording studio at some time. this book is the diary account of the recording engineer dealing with the band, the producer, the studio, the label, and all that goes along with it. this book is an absolute must for anyone who is interested in music and recording. every studio big and small should have a copy near the mixing board.
mixerman, whoever he is, has done an excellent job of capturing the chaos of the process and putting it into book form. it's personal and fun, unpretentious, and does make you feel as if you are in the room with the band. this book is much discussed amongst recording engineers because this subject matter hits close to home, and according to the book it is based on the recording process with one particular band, a known band who we've all heard on the radio. this is a taste of what it's like to record a band for a recording label, and it's a very entertaining read. highly recommended and practically necessary if you are involved in music making or recording or anywhere else in that industry. have a good read and prepare for some hearty laughs.

Hilarious No Holds Barred,
This review is from: The Daily Adventures of Mixerman (Hardcover)
This book has been touted as non-fiction, but I see it as a scathing satire of certain situations in the Recording Industry that may actually be an aggregation of aggravations Mixerman has encoutered in his carreer.
But, who cares? It's highly entertaining throughout, with a lot of very funny shenanigans throughout -- one of those books that's hard to stop reading once you start. It's must reading for any musician or audio engineer but you don't have to be either to be ROTF LYAO. IMO it's the perfect summer book! ~ Achille's Albatross

FUNNY AS HELL!
You don't have to be into modern music, recording, major label albums, audio engineering, music production, pro tools, or studio work to enjoy this book. Watching these guys 'work' and the train wreck that ensues is worth the price of entry. Guster made a good album (I doubt you've heard of it) but the making of it: all the money, time, politics, bickering, backstabbing, drugs, personal issues, major label dealings...etc... Trumps The Actual Music.... This book is like the Boogie Nights of making a major label record! My friend read it in 10 hours, non-stop Axel

A Disappointment....,
By Smurf (Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Daily Adventures of Mixerman (Hardcover)
I read the online version, jeez, 7 years ago? Anyway, it is the same as the online version, minus the "extra set of eyes & ears" of Vincent that was on line.
Overall, the ending was a major let down. It could have - should have followed the "band" for a little bit more IMHO....I mean if it is "fiction"...right? If you have not read the online version, or even if you have, find it used like I did....$6.05 shipped from an Amazon competitor....any more and it is not worth it.

So spot-on it's spooky. I think I know who the bass player is 'cause I toured with his old band once. A great story, told with the wit and detail of a pro who was there as it unfolded.

This book finally says a great deal that has needed to be said about the recording industry for a couple decades.,

I couldn't put it down. I knew it had really struck a nerve when a friend asked if I'd ever heard of some guy named "mixerman" after he'd heard folks raving about The Daily Adventures of Mixerman backstage at the Grand Ol' Opry.

What a great read, from start to finish I never wanted to put the book down. Sad it ends to be honest, but how such a project could keep going is beyond me. Buy as many as you can give out!

A good look behind the scenes of a recording session,
This review is from: The Daily Adventures of Mixerman (Hardcover)
Hilarious and poignant, this book reveals what really happens during most recording sessions and proves that no matter how glamorous the profession, something about it will always stink... if life gives you cotton then get some fingaz.

This is one of the best books I have ever read. It so captured my attention that I read it from cover to
cover in three days. I would love to know the true identity of Mixerman. Many of the diary entries seem like they were taken directly from MY own life. An excellent read!! |
