5.0 out of 5 stars This book has changed my life.
Being ACOA I first got this book about 12 or so years ago and have been reading it daily with my morning meditation. It has helped me shake a lot the baggage I brought out of my alcoholic home and to be the person I want to be playing by MY rules.

2.0 out of 5 stars Ho-hum!
This book just didn't speak me. Compared to her "Affirmations for the Inner Child", which is fantastic, I found the affirmations in this book lackluster and uninspiring. If you're an ACOA, buy the afore-mentioned book for some real food for thought, not this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Not Just for ACOA Any More, June 26, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Daily Affirmations for Adult Children of Alcoholics (Paperback)
I am not the adult child of an alcoholic. I am, however, the product of a dysfunctional family, and recommend daily use of this book for all who struggle with the self-image issues born of family (or non-family!) histories that are fraught with obsessive or abusive behavior.

This is a wonderful work; a work to USE, not just to read. Each time through, these affirmations grow in meaning. Take the time to feel these truths each time you work with one: Imagine yourself owning -- actually believing and feeling -- that which graces these pages. Regardless of the origin of your pain, these affirmations are a true and helping gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best "Affirmation Format" book I have used., July 19, 2005

This order represented my 2nd copy of this book. My first was purchased approximately 15 years ago--I wore it out. As an ACOA, I have owned and routinely used several day-to-day, affirmation/devotional type books. All have been very helpful; however, I find this one so much more healing for me as it speaks so directly to the problems I have experienced with periodic depression, hopelessness, fear and anxiety. Rokelle Lerner obviously knows this "syndrome" thoroughly and how to help one reach for and attain the positive thoughts and attitudes that lead to healing.

4.0 out of 5 stars emotionally abused, October 10, 2005
This review is from: Daily Affirmations for Adult Children of Alcoholics (Paperback)
No one in my family is an Alcoholic, so when a new friend inquired about this I was a bit surprised. The new friend has been a legal drug abuser and there are other alcoholics and drug abusers in her family. Then later I read a list of attributes of Emotionally Abused persons 'symptoms' they were taken from Adult Children of Alcoholics. My friend shared this book with me. This book is wonderful for anyone that needs help standing up for themselves and seeing value in themselves. This isn't to be selfish. I would urge anyone with low self esteem to read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daily Affirmations for Adult Children of Alcoholics (and other dysfunctional families), February 8, 2009
This review is from: Daily Affirmations for Adult Children of Alcoholics (Paperback)
This purchase was my third and fourth copy, because I keep giving them away to friends recovering from one crisis or another. No matter what your background, if you are anxious and uncertain you can find a moment of peace to help you get centered for the day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal for any Adult Child, August 6, 2006
This review is from: Daily Affirmations for Adult Children of Alcoholics (Paperback)
Whether you grew up in a home with alcoholic parents, or simply in ANY tough enviroment -- divorce, single parent home, etc. -- this book shares valuable insights with anyone who finds themselves struggling in adulthood. The advice isn't pithy or cliched, but instead candid and wise. The book gives the reader practical and philosophical daily reminders about self-worth, healing, grounding, focusing and generally living a healthier, fuller life.

I received this book from my sister, both of us Adult Children. When you really stick to it daily and you read and reflect over it each day, this book can contribute greatly to anyone's emotional recovery, alcoholics in the family or not. This is one I will definitely reread when I need support and pass on to others in need of it's aid!

5.0 out of 5 stars LIFE SAVER, August 31, 2008
By
ACOA (Newark, DE) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Daily Affirmations for Adult Children of Alcoholics (Paperback)
SINCE I GREW UP IN A HOME WHERE BOTH PARENTS WERE ALCOHOLICS, I KNOW ABOUT THE FEELINGS OF DESPARATION, LONELINESS, AND DENIAL. I KNOW ABOUT PHYSICAL, VERBAL AND EMOTIONAL ABUSE. NOW THAT I AM AN ADULT, I HAVE ISSUES WITH TRUST, COMMITMENT AND EXPERIENCING JOY. THIS BOOK AND OTHER AL-ANON LITERATURE HAS BEEN A LIFE SAVER FOR ME. THE INSPIRATIONAL PASSAGES HELPS ME THINK ABOUT MY LIFE IN RELATIONSHIP TO THE ALCOHOLISM IN THE FAMILY. IT HELPS ME SEE HOPE AND LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ALL ADULT CHILDREN, SPOUSES, AND/OR FRIENDS OF AN ALCOHOLIC. IT DOESN'T GET MUCH BETTER THAN THIS.
