This book reaches out to those who carry the heavy burdens of caregiving and offers them small, daily gifts of understanding, appreciation and compassion. Caregivers often feel overburdened and unappreciated. These meditations acknowledge the emotional and physical demands placed on those who care for persons who may be in lengthy recovery from serious accidents or illnesses, or who are infirm, senile or dying. Real feelings - anger, guilt, fear - are fully acknowledged. In writing about the tough job of caregiving, Samples does not blink. There is no cheap, gushy sentiment here. She gives much deserved credit to caregivers while offering them encouragement and suggestions for maintaining their own lives in the process. The real hazards of exhaustion and burnout are acknowledge and addressed in this little volume. It is a perfect gift for those who care for children, parents, partners, or others who cannot care for themselves.

Every day has a special topic specific to what caregivers are going through. Reading it will help caregivers take better care of themselves and gain wisdom to cope.

I have given this little book many times to someone I know that is doing a lot of care giving. It has always been very appreciated and then they tell me of someone they know that they want to give it to also! This writer hits the mark so often- I find I usually can't just read one day- I have to sneak a peek at another day too.

great daily pick me up to start my day. starts out with honest reflections about hard days. wonderful to know i'm not the only one. confession is good for the soul. the next paragraph analyzes home situation, how loved one might be doing or feeling with a generous dose of grace and kindness for myself. i open to whatever the date is so i never feel like i have to read and catch up. just a page for the day.

This is oart of my cherished reading. It provides uplifting for me in handling the illness of my husband, who is in kidney failure. It gives me comfort so that I can share spiritually with him of how blessed we are.

Caregiving is very challenging. As a caregiver you go through so many emotions and thoughts and not all of them are nice. This book was obviously written by someone who has been down the caregiving road. You feel comforted reading this book. It addresses the challenges of caregiving better than any other book I have read on the subject.

This book is written so that you can either read that day's selection, or jump around to read what applies to the challenges you are facing that day. Every time I read this book I feel better.

If you are a caregiver buy this book for yourself! If you know a caregiver, buy this book for them. They need it and will really appreciate it.
